YACT- Looking to add some punch to car stereo

I'm wondering if anyone can point me to any links for good review sites or offer any advice for a decent sub setup to add to my car to give the stereo a bit better response on the low end. The car is a '06 Mustang with the Shaker500 audio system- it's decent for what I am looking for overall but the bass cuts out considerably when you push the volume hard so I'm looking to pair it with a decent sub setup and I'd like to do it in a reasonably compact space(trunk space is at a considerable premium). Main focus is 40Hz-100Hz at high decibel settings and avoiding low end roll off/rattle(obviously an amp will also be required).

My father owns a '05 Stang with the Shaker1000 for anyone wondering why I didn't just hit that checkbox- too much money for what it offers over the 500(not much). I searched already and couldn't find anything relating to what I'm looking for, my apologies if I was too much of an idiot to not hit the right keywords for a commonly discussed topic 🙂

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah the Shaker 1000 system was pricey, but I figured the Shaker headunit would not have your usual RCA outputs, plus I didn't want to start drilling new holes in my brand new car. I figured that the extra $1k for the Shaker1000 was only a few bucks more on my monthly payment, so I hit that check box without a second thought

On my Camry, I installed a Polk/Momo C500.1 Mono amp along with a Polk/Momo Subwoofer. It sounds great. I've had it for almost 3 years without any problems.

The shaker 1000 does sound pretty good.

You might have to wait until someone comes out with an adapter harness for the Shaker. I remember reading on a Mustang forum that there were some difficulties in tying into the Shaker units.

Metra makes a wiring harness adapter for the Shaker500 - but I think it's for switching out the head-unit: Metra 70-5521

How could are you with power tools?
If your relatively handy, roll your own with an Adire Shiva 12". Bump up to a 15, or a higher series if you want a bit more boom in the back.
If yourabitnutty likeme you can go up to the Brahma and give 2000+ watts. Garuanteed to put a big ole smile on your face.

Adire Mobile - Speaker tab is drop down.

How would you say that compares to the S1K?

Thanks for the heads up on that. If it is too involved I'll likely just take it to the local pros to have them install it. Installing moblie audio is something I've always rather grudgingly done anyway, I'd rather not dig into too big of a mess with my Stang and have to drive one of the family cars more then necessary.

Not very 😱 🙂

I was thinking something like a couple of 12s or 15s driven by a decent amp would be about where I want to get. I'm not looking to impress anyone- the only time I get to listen to it decently is when I'm alone in the car anyway(the 500 is more then most people's ears will tollerate it seems- don't know what's wrong with them). Do you know of any prebuilt solutions that are comparable?

AA costs too much now.

I'd say I could feel the base more with the Polk/Momo setup in the Camry.
Here's pic of the setup before I cleaned up and tucked away all the wires. But I probably have the gained turned way up too and I think I set my Pioneer head unit to send everything 200Hz and below to the sub. I tend not to listen to the radio much when I drive the Mustang because I switched out the stock exhaust with some Borla Axle-back's and the sound of the V8 rumble and burble is music too my ears 😀

All you'll need is a high quality line output convertor. Go talk to your local stereo shop, I'll bet they have done a few installs on the new Stang's already. In the near future I plan on replacing my Shaker headunit with NAV.
