There is also a diesel Golf, I believe - a friend recently bought one (though he is in another state and I have not seen the car). Do they not make any more diesel Volvos? Huh . . .

Yeah they still make some very nice TDi's. Maybe not on the US market.

a bit OT, but I'd love to have a Silerado HD w/ a Duramax diesel 🙂

I think the Duramax is made by Isuzu motors. AFAIK their diesels have been great. Glad Chevy went with someone else to do their diesels besides themselved. Chevy diesels sucked.

The original Chevy diesel were built by Detroit Diesel except for the 350 diesel, it was and Oldsmobile engine, the 1.9L in the Chevy Luv, made by Isuzu, and the 4.3L diesel, made by Chevy but didn't last very long it was too noisy.

My dad had a Chevy Celebrity with the 4.3L V6 diesel in it, it was an awesome car, it'd run 100 mph & pull ~30 mpg😀

Sort of fell apart after ~200K miles.

i'm stupid... is it harder to find places that have diesel gas? how much does it typically cost?

around here 10 to 20 cents a gallon cheaper than gas

Another vote for the VW TDI, preferably in the Golf over the Jetta. Only 90 hp, but 150 lb-ft of torque available right off of idle. Make no mistake, it is not a sports car, but the torque around town sometimes makes it feel like it's going purty quick!

You could also get an older model (1990 to 1997) Passat TDI. They are good cars as well, just make sure you get a manual. Huge amounts of room in the wagons, too.

Hm, nice advantages. 😀 Why arent all cars diesel?
Because until very recently diesels smelled terrible, were loud as hell, smoked like you wouldn't believe, and refused to start if it got below freezing.

Don't touch the VW diesels. Just not worth it. I'd recommend looking at older Mercedes diesels, they will run for 400,000+ miles easily.

Long time no see! 🙂 Where ya been?
All over the map. Literally. 🙂

I've check every large website for used cars and can't find one. I can find a few diesel Jettas, but none are wagons.

Looks like I'm going to have to buy new and than means a trip to the dealer.

<dramatic music playing>

The Passat TDI's are kinda rare. And they aren't late model, anyway. But you should be able to find a Golf TDI. I suggest expanding your search and consider looking around the country. I've noticed in my car searches that different types of cars tend to be localized. You won't find a lot of trucks for sale in the city, for example.

Or keep your eye on this forum:

one of my roommates in college had a diesel Chevette of all things. Doubt if any of those are still running around!

that looks nice, our next car we buy, in 4-5 years, i want to get a diesel, that wagon would work ok

I really like that model😀

A lot of folks that decide to go TDI get pretty fanatical about them and will purchase them from dealerships in different states, VW has always been spotty about diesel availability, I think VW percieves the diesel option as a fringe market in the US (& prob rightly so) and hasn't made them as easily available as their gasoline powered counterparts.

Well I decided to buy a new model, when to VW.com, selected what I wanted, and here is a picture of it...Green Diesel Wagon. I requested a quote from my local dealer and I see how that goes.

Works for me!

I think the Jetta station wagon looks nice, actually, and for some reason it is not nearly as feminine as the Jetta sedan.
