LOL...people make fun of NASCAR for being repetitive laps around an oval...and yet these fools just pull doughnuts in parking lots all day? Am I missing something here??

"driving practice and lessons concentrated on the art of drifting and basic sport driving concepts" - WTF?

These dumbasses must get alot of practice from their hours playing Midnight Club 2. any idiot can yank his parking brake and learn the "art" of drifting.

Yawn.

they're not just holding the steering wheel right/left and stepping on the gas....they're keeping the rear tires from getting traction and guiding the car with the front tires, so the car could be facing the inside of a turn while it's really going the right direction around the turn.

But, I don't like Nascar and I love rally racing, so if you like Nascar, you probably wouldn't understand drifting, as I won't ever understand Nascar no matter how someone explains it :p

So it's a controlled skid. They're doing nothing more than "sanctioning" reckless driving. How is this a competition?

Real drifting requires control.

I think I posted a video here earlier, and it had someone drifting their car around a slalom of women. While that is stupid, it did showcase the driver's control of the car.

If your able to perform real drifting, well then it'll help you out if you ever get your car into a slide (when you don't want to) and it will help you recover from it. Basically, it teachs you car control.

However, going around in ciricles pulling the handbrake is NOT DRIFTING!

I've never practiced "real drifting" and I know how to recover from a slide just fine. If someone wants to learn car control then why not go to a real class that teaches it to you.

And drag racing is what? Stepping on the gas and keep the car going straight? And basketball is what? running around with a ball and try to make it go in a bucket? and counter-strike is what? spending hours shooting pixels moving around your monitor? if you don't know enough about it you should try not to post ignorant comments.

You could do that (and I'm sure a lot of those drivers have gone to those types of driving schools). But its also fun to slide the car around in an empty parking lot. I do it every winter when theirs 10+cm of fresh snow in the parking lot in any car. Its more fun in a RWD car though :)

The challenge is to see how long you can keep the car going straight at an angle..and then switching sides and trying again.

Nascar: people race around a track, and attempt to be the first one to finish. The winner gets a trophy.

Drifting: people drive around a similar track, and purposely break the tires loose because they think it looks cool. Even if a "winner" is declared, the judging is completely subjective and based solely on style points. See: figure skating.

Heh, that was awesome. Thanks for visualizing my point. How anyone can compare this to something like drag racing is beyond me. When people drag race they try to squeeze every ounce of performance out of their car. This is nothing more than flinging a car around a course to "look" cool. Why would you constantly scrub off speed like that if you are tryying to get around a race course in the fastest time possible? It makes no sense and is a waste of rubber.

Blah.. drag racing sucks. What's the point of going in a straight line.. I do that everyday on normal roads. Autocrossing is much more fun and depends much more on the driver than what your money can buy you.
