YACT: Jiffy Lube is trying to screw me!

I had a YACT thread a little while back, here. After taking the car in to University Mazda here in Seattle they mechanic said the issue was something about the oil filter being tightned too much or something along those lines. I am not a car person so I did not understand much about it.

I dropped off the paperwork and filed a claim at the Jiffy Lube that did the work for reimbursment for my oil repair (~$90) a little over a week ago. Today I called them and they bascially said they assumed I was full of crap and were not going to do anything. This was decided last week but they never actually called me back. I left a message with the district manager for Jiffy requesting he call me and mentioning things like the BBB.

I just spoke to the dealership and they are going to pull my file and get together even more info so hopefully that combined with actually speaking to a district person will allow me to get my money back.

Any ideas on any other course of action? thx for the rant...

Jiffy Lube sucks. I wouldn't let them work on my moped if I owned one.

So Jiffy Lube tightened the oil filter too tight damaging the oil filter gasket and a local Mazda dealer repaired it for $90 and you want Jiffy lube to pay for the secondary repair?

I believe legally Jiffy Lube is only responsible for the oil filter and the labor to replace it if they agree to pay anything. Any additional costs would be your responsibility.

your first problem is going to jiffy lube to begin with. those minimum wage places are horrible.

jiffy lube and other oil chains are the worst places to go to... they used to overtighten both my oil filter and oil plug and im guessing it was so i couldnt get it off myself an dwould have to take it back to them to get it off

That $90 was for the hose, oil change, and something else (don't have my repair order in front of me) NOT for any labor. I just want the $ back for what they broke with their screwup, nothing more, nothing less.

The sad part is I found out the dealership charges $1 less than Jiffy to change my oil, and they do a full *real* inspection... guess I learned the hard way.

I would really rather not take it... if I can get the money back in the next two weeks I can spend it all on fireworks ;)

It will be a little bit before I post back, I have to do a few errands at work but I will read all the posts

They have some morons running the Jiffy Lube it sounds like. My brother manages one and he would have reimbursed you no problem assuming what you said here is all there is to it. It's worth $90.00 to have you telling people that they were stand up guys about the problem.

if you don't want to do the oil change yourself, just buy the oil and filter and take it to the stealership. they normally charge you $10-$15 for the labor.

my local stealership is half hour at most, or the oil change is free.

Jiffy lube and all the quick lube places take the oil plug and oil filter off with the air guns, they also put them back with the air guns and any car that goes there is going to have an oil leak by 50K miles. This is why some of us change our own oil even though the price difference is only $10.

Yeap, places like Jiffy Lube will over torque everything. The worst place to get your oil change is Wal-Mart.

Here's what you do: go out and get a whole bunch of bricks.
Drive to Jiffy Lube, and throw the bricks at their trucks.

Making the threat to call the BBB is like peeing in the wind....

You're on the right track gathering data - I'd quit doing stuff on the phone though and go down to the office or Jiffy lube place. It's a whole lot harder to blow you off in person and, if you raise your voice, customers can hear too....

Let's all pause for a moment to reflect on the fact that Jiffy Lube is the place that tells people that not replacing the air filter every 3k miles will damage their engine.

Jiffy Lube, and other quick lube places were fine heavily recently in S. Cali for these BS pratices. It took enough complaints for state govt to investigate.

Peeing in the wind is no good, I learned that by spitting in a 60+ MPH head wind...

I am planning on confronting the district manager face to face, now I have the mechanics direct phone number as well as a signed document telling what the problem was and the cause.

To all those talking about changing your own oil... until just last week that was not very possible for me. My apartment does not let people do car work in the parking lot and I don't have any tools to do my own changes. At my new place I have a garage and a seperate parking slab all to myself so I can do whatever I want. I plan to start changing my own oil again and if for some reason I can't, it's going into the dealership. NEVER back to the JL!

Lol, they tried to get me to replace mine during the last change. I looked at the filter and it was pretty freaking clean so I asked them about that. He shrugged and said it would still be a good thing to change it.

I had them put the old one back

I stopped going to them once I found out the vacuum they clean your car with is also the same one they stick in the filler cap if they overfill.
