LOL, knew that was coming. They've had similar trucks at places I've worked, I've conned my way into driving a couple, they're pretty crappy, no sound barriers, tiny engine, they'd be a death trap on US roads.

yeh, no japanese K-car/truck would ever pass u.s. safety standards. when i was over there, i saw one flipped over in a ditch.

WTF is the point of using a 650cc engine if you only get 40 miles per gallon out of it? Couldn't you pull a 1.6 liter engine out of a civic, that has twice the power and about the same gas mileage, and use that instead?

Politics. Many countries have varying fees and taxes that are affected by displacement, weight and/or power. The registration for vehicles with an engine less than 660 is under a separate category in Japan.
