I knew leaving work today that during my drive home my 90 Subaru Legacy would flip over the 200,000 mile mark. 8 miles from home I watch as it turns over. 4 miles later the transmission feels like it is slipping badly then when I stop at a light the radio volume decreases and I notice a faint glow from the battery idiot light. I turn off the headlights etc and things seem a bit better but the battery light is still lit. I park it at home and sure enough it was running on the battery and when I turn it off it will not start again. I am planning on getting another car in the upcoming weeks but was counting on this thing lasting at least that long but now it looks like I will have to waste $120.00 and get a rebuilt alternator. It's almost like the car knows that it's days are numbered. :disgust:

I am not really complaining (well kind of but what the heck) and I understand that junk breaks and that 200K is nice mileage I just find it ironic that it does it right at the 200K mark like there is a timer in the car or something. Even considering the cost of the alternator and the left axle I had to replace last week I am still not up to what my likely monthly payment on a new car will be so it is not all bad. :p

I was supposed to have a 200,000 mile warranty??? I was ripped off! My warranty ran out 100,000 miles ago! ;)

It's just an alternator after 200,000 miles. That's pretty damned impressive.

<-- loves his new Scoobie :)

Good luck with it, mine has been hands down the best car I have ever owned for reliability especially given the way I have used and abused it. If I didn't want a pickup truck I would not hesitate to buy another one.
