YACT: Is this bad?

Was leaving for work today and backed out of my driveway, put it into drive, and nothing happened, it was like I was in neutral. I than proceeded to put it in 1 and the car moved forward, I shifted back into drive and it was like nothing ever happened...

Car is a 95' Mazda Protege, 667xx miles... Tranny has been working fine, and I checked the tranny fluid, its okay... Any ideas?

I had this happen to my car.... I started it up, it made a weird noise, drove it up the driveway to get my dad, turned it off, then back on again, it made the noise again. My dad opened the hood up and we started it up again it didn't make the noise again. I put it in to reverse and just rolled down the driveway into the road. I put it in gear, it didn't go, I put it in 2 & 3, it didn't go, I put it in reverse, it didn't go. Turns out the transmission died. It took two transmissions to get it to work again. The dealership put one on, did a test drive and that one died. So now the car is on it's third.

Something sort of similar happened to my car on Tuesday. Was on the brake at a light. When the light changed, I hit the gas and the car didn't move for a fraction of a second, (like in neutral) then caught.

Catastrophic failure of the transmission less than 100 miles later. Here's my thread.
