Here's the kicker though, that's all I drove the car last year. So I don't think I've changed the oil in like 12 months. Is that bad? Even though the mileage is low?
Ah the kooky things you find when preparing taxes. In this case, car expense while used for business purposes.
driving like that is worse on a car than running it constantly and changing every 10,000 miles. the contaminants in the oil do not get a chance to disapate, and stay in the oil, eating at things.
i would change the oil at least every 6 months..even if you don't drive more than 5000 miles... that's what i usually go by.. 5000miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.. usually it's the 5000. 3000miles/3months is overkill with today's cars and oils
If you don't drive your car much you should change the oil every 6 months. Make sure you take it out on the freeway or highway and run it at high speed for 5-10 miles before draining the oil.
Change interval for a car is 3 months or 3,000 miles. If the car is summer only, you can get away with changing the oil at the end of the summer only (if you drive less than 3,000 miles in the summer). Just don't store the car with old oil in it.
