Subaru website

One of the benefits of my IMBA membership is the ability to buy a Subaru at dealer cost. That should but the 5 speed Outback Sport with Special Edition package at a little under $19k.

Outback Sport
Like the Legacy-based Outback, the Impreza-based Outback Sport features SUV-like styling cues. The Outback Sport is available only in wagon form and is powered by a 165-hp, 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder that teams with a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic. The Outback Sport was face-lifted for 2004 with revisions to the hood, front fenders, headlights, grille, bumpers and taillights. All-wheel drive is standard. A new Special Edition for 2005 features a rear spoiler and interior comfort enhancements, and the Outback Sport's engine gains electronic throttle control.

EPA Fuel Economy:
City: 22 ? 23 Highway: 28 ? 30
Available Engines:
165-hp, 2.5-liter H-4
Available Transmissions: 4-speed automatic w/OD, 5-speed manual w/OD

SE package includes:
# 260-watt 6-speaker premium audio system with a subwoofer and 6-disc in-dash CD player
# Tailgate with rear spoiler
# Leather-wrapped 3-spoke MOMO brand steering wheel
# Leather-wrapped shifter handle
# Auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass
# Center console armrest extension

online reviews are pretty good. So what do you think?

I'll take the lack of responses as a sign that nobody has thought much of this car. I hadn't either until I saw one on the freeway this week. They redesigned the look this year and it was actually pretty cool for a sub 20k car. Guess I'll just have to go test drive one. ;)

At a much higher price tag.

Legacy & Impreza are totally different classes, the Legacy is definitely the nicer vehicle.

I have a '95 Impreza, former roommate has a 2002 Outback.

We both love them.

Nah, I still have the truck. Decided it was handy to have around, and it looks like I may need it for the return trip.

i'm moving to Utah between now and August and thought the subaru would do better in the snow than my old RWD volvo. ;)

the flat 4 should be helpful with MPG on the road trips between cali and UT.
