basically what the title says...I am wondering if it is illegal for the car dealer to give out the info so I would be able to contact them about any issues with the car or truck...one dealer said it would be ok and another said it was highly illegal...just curious if anyone knows

thanks

i don't know if it's illegal.. but if I sold a car to a dealer, I would be very unhappy if they gave my contact info to future buyers. In addition, I sold the car, I don't give a crap if you have issues with it, and don't fvcking bother me about it.

You're not buying the car from the previous owner, you're buying it from the dealer. The previous owner has no responsibility for that vehicle once the dealer takes it into inventory, so leave them the fvck alone. Direct your questions to the dealer and let them try to answer them. WTF?

Agreed. I knew it was a POS when I sold it to that fly by night dealership. That's why I got rid of it and I never want to hear about it again. If you call me I will have to come to your home and waste your entire family. God, I was sick of that car. ;)

If you don't hate the car, then you sell it to a family memeber. If the car is a POS and you hate it, then you trade it in.

dude get off your high horse I was just inquring about it, it is n't like I said I was going to sell there info to someone...It was a simple question...the only reason I was curious was I feel that people sometimes dump there cars because something is going on it...and I do not want to buy a lemon...that is my only worry.....I don't know what your problem is it sounds like someone pissed in your cherrios

I'd be very upset and wouldn't tell you sh!t if someone gave you my info. Unless you are buying the car from me you have no business asking me about it. However, I'm really a nice guy so I probably would just be nice. :)

Hey, OF COURSE people dump their sh!tter cars at dealers. If you go to a dealer to buy a used car, you BETTER know that before looking. And I'm just telling you that it's not the previous owner's responsibility to tell you sh!t about the car. So before YOU go pissing in someone's cherrios by bothering them and asking about a car they dumped at the dealer 8 months ago, you should just STFU and die.

Have a nice day!

Agreed. Don't call me, and I won't call you if I buy a vehicle from you either. I was offered by the seller of the last car to call them OR the person they'd bought it from (friend who said that I could), but I've called neither and don't expect to. It's not necessary.

Yeah, if I had a car with a hard to tell problem that was really huge (like I knew tranny was about to die), I would not sell to a private, but I would sell to a dealer, because they're in the business and they should be competent in not getting a bad car. I guess they could pass that problem on to somebody but hopefully they'd have a warranty or something.

I've always requested to talk to the previous owner when buying a used car from a dealer. Surprisingly the dealer has always agreed and the former owner has always been more than happy to talk about the car.

Thankfully I've never purchased a car that was formally owned by an ATOT member.

well seriously.. if someone actually called me and asked about my old car.. i wouldn't just hang up on you.. but it wouldn't make me happy. I'd probably just tell you everything was good when I sold it, regardless of the fact that the car was a complete POS.

Damm, where do you find these dealers ??
Which dealers in their right mind would realease these information to you ??
I don't know it its illegal or not but it should be.

I totally agree with everyone else.
If I sold my car to the dealer, its no longer my problem once the dealer sell it to someone else.
I certainly do not want them to release my info to anyone.

Lets just say, someone got a lemon and the dealer refuse to help that person.
If that person has my info(and hes loco) , he might go postal on me.
Sure its far fetch but its I certainly don't want any chance of it happenning.

Actually I think in some states the dealers are REQUIRED to give you the previous owner's contact info if you request it...

Here in Oregon you can pay the DMV $25 for your vehicle's COMPLETE TITLE HISTORY.

It will have ALL previous owners names and addresses (no phone numbers).

Contact your local DMV and ask if you can order your vehicle's complete title history?
