YACT: Is a replacement cat worth the money?

I have already bought a cat-back exhaust for my car and I am planning on buying a new header. Should I go ahead and replace the catalytic converter too? It's very tiny and I can't help but feel that it's going to limit my whole new exhaust system greatly. Jackson racing makes a freer flowing cat for my car for $200. My friend says it's a rip though and a replacement cat wouldn't be any better than the one I have on there now. Maybe add 0.5 HP. Is this true?

Do you have smog checks where you live at? Out here we just get rid of the insides but you can't do that where there are smog checks.

I put a bigger cat on my car when I put headers on it (already had a cat-back system). The way I look at it, 3" headers don't do any good if you have to constrict the exhaust down to a 2" pipe to get through the cat.

Nope. I guess I could get a through-pipe. But should I?

Hey now, I wasn't poking fun. My english teacher actually races a ricey Miata. Yeah, races. Like on a track. Just trying to make sure there are at least 2 degrees of seperation between all you AT weirdos and myself.

I definitely wouldn't do sh*t without dyno numbers by people who've done it themselves on a miata. I'm sure you can find a forum. I'm sure you'll then realize that for all the money you're pouring in the car it's probably getting negligible gains. I'd personally keep it stock and if it does not satisfy your need for speed save up money for a faster car or one more easily modifiable. Course, you didn't ask for my opinion (like that's stopped me in the past :evil;):D

Well I can already feel a difference after replacing the stock exhaust. People have told me that there is also a noticable difference replacing the header too. It's not cheap but it's cheaper than a new car or a Supercharger/Turbo. I really want a SCer but it'll just cost so much.....

edit: oh and my car isn't hard to modify at all. with the huge popularity of the miata there are so many mods available for it. probably as many if not more so than they have for civics. (just more pricey). there are also guides all over the internet for just about every mod. I added power windows to my car w/ the help of a guide (w/ pics). :D

$200 is a lot and you probably won't pass emissions with it... might as well go with a test pipe or leave it stock. imho of course.

Well I don't think there's much more I can do to engine w/o putting the money into forced induction.

Flow Numbers, don't worry about power output numbers, they are BS usually

EDIT: Don't do an offroad pipe, joint the few elite of the world with a fast car thats 100% DOT legal
