YACT: INfo request, nothing broken

My wife called me a bit ago and asked this curious question. She said, "How can you tell what size engine a car has if you can't physically look at the engine"

Case in point.. 1997 Mazda 626 LX. It could have the 2.0 4 banger, or it could have the 2.5 V6. All she has to go by is VIN, and the fact its a stock 97 626 LX.

I imagine she would have to look the vehicle up by its VIN. Will carfax identify the car as a 4 cyl or 6 cyl, or will it just say its a 626 lx sedan from the VIN.

Will calling Mazda do anything for us? Who else will be able to tell us specifics about the vehicle without having to lift the hood and look at it?

p.s. This is for her work and they dont have a tool to run a VIN.

Yes you can tell by the VIN. I don't know if Carfax will tell you, but if you PM me the VIN I could let you know.
