YACT: I'm so happy I want to scream...

I don?t know how much background some of you need but here is a quick synopsis to help you understand my position. I have been restoring and repairing classic muscle cars since 1984. My grandfather owned his own shop, which specialized in restoring and racing Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth vehicles. I have driven or work on every possible muscle car from those companies. I developed a fondness, some of you would call this a sickness, for Ford vehicles and started my own company at sixteen restoring Mustangs. When my grandfather died so did most of the Chrysler work I was working on. In fact I haven?t worked on a classic Chrysler in several years.

Flash-forward to today, I get a call from a customer asking me if I would be willing to take a non-Ford restoration project. I said it depends on what it is; I don?t have a lot of extra time this summer to complete another project. He said I would want to a least look at this one. I said OK and took the number to call. I called the potential customer and after a couple minutes of getting to know each other I asked the question, ?What kind of car do you want me to work on??

He replied, ?It?s a 1966 Dodge Charger 383 4sp.?

<Screams like a little girl>

After a couple moments of silence I replied that I would be happy to stop by in two weeks to look at the car and see if I can fit it in this spring/summer.

Please understand that I work on so many Mustangs and Fairlanes that they don?t excite me anymore. That?s why I?m looking for a 70-71 Torino for my own personal car. To work on a Dodge Charger again is a real treat for me. I can only hope I can complete the job as well as my grandfather did.

Thanks for reading my lengthy post.

<Cliff Notes>
Been working on Ford for 20 years and bored with them.
Gets offer to work on a classic Dodge Charger
<Screams like a little girl>
Accepts offer and will look at the car in two weeks

If any of you ask me to turn in my Man card I will drive a big-block Mustang up your driveway. 😀

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Good for you Quix 🙂

Edit;

Man cards cannot be revoked from true automotive gearheads like you and I, just working on any vehicles gives us an automatic lifetime membership 😉

You need cliff notes for that ?

The Cliff notes weren't for him, but people that... ...What was your question, again?

Sounds like fun, change to something else can always be good.

Quix,

That car looks a little like a Torino... Looks like you can almost satisfy two wishes...

Just make sure you don't scratch the guy's car up when you're humping it. 😛

It's so small there's nothing to worry about. Although some of the residue might affect the paint though.

I'm scared to ask how you came by both of those bits of information. :Q

I'm a secret agent, remember? That's my "cover" car.

Seriously though - that Charger is sweet 🙂

You MUST post pics of the Charger.

Have fun! My dad and I just did an engine swap on a 72 Chevy Pickup and we're working on taking the straight 6 out of a 70 LeMans. After its out, we'll put in a 4-speed manual transmission and a 350.

My dream is a late 60's Camaro Z28 or Olds 442.

I personally hope it's a non-R/T model in a burnt orange metallic, it would look like a grandpa's car but scream off the line. 😀
