It's been AT LEAST 3 years since it got broken off in there. And the lock isn't the type that you can push it out from the inside of the door panel, and the other end of the key no longer exists. It's in far enough that the little tab that covers the hole closes, so it's very difficult to inspect.

Cut off a blank key and tried the superglue trick. no good. Other thoughts, other than replacing the entire lock assembly? It's not as if I can make it worse.

I paid $700 for the van. Best I can tell, a new lock is going to run at least half that around here (god damn rapists)

I may just install remote keyless and be done.

I did. Dad stole it. Damn midlife crisis. And this van isn't beat up, it just has a few hailstone dents (which were put into it when it was at the factory, actually), and it's dirty. The interior is actually damn near mint. Runs like new (well, better than like new thanks to my insane hours spent tuning and modding the Mitsu powerplant). Ride is very nice. And above all, it's good for embarassing ricetards. I like it.

*shrug* But there's no fun in that.

And it'd deprive PM4E of another opportunity to make fun of me. I'm not THAT evil.

That's funny, because we have a 1995 Nissan Quest with the exact same situation. It has been about 5 years, and it is still in there

I can't remember the last time I used a key to open my car. That's what remotes are for. For quite a long time my lock was actually broken and I never knew it until the mechanic tried to get my car for me after an oil change and he tried to use the key...

The lock can't be that expensive. For my Honda a new lock cylinder was like $70 and I think I paid $15 to have it keyed to the rest of the locks.

Ok.. All you magnet fanboys..

Keys are made of BRASS, a NON-FERROUS metal.

Maybe some bubblegum and a toothpick? :p

What make, model, year? I may be going to the junkyard this weekend.

I remember reading a tip about removing broken keys years ago. Something about attaching one end of a wire to the positive battery terminal and the other to a pin. Then carefully touch the end of the pin to the back of the stuck key. When it touches, the arc will stick it to the key enabling you to remove it. Never tried it but sounds good....................
