Okay its a 1990 Ford Tbird with the 3.8L super charged engine. Car itself has I think like 170,000+ miles on it, the engine has closer to 80,000+. Aside from a couple things I will mention, the car is in excellelant condtion. The body has no scratches or dents, the leather while no longer new, has no tears or any other imperfections other then age.
Now for the problems, if you saw my other threads, you may know a bit about this. I got this car(acyually its my fiances)from a freind in her family. He buys cheap cars and then fixes them up and sells them, for a profit obviously, but he does this mainly for fun, it is not his only income, and he doesn't make that much on the deals. He is a trusted friend of the family, so I can't really blame any of this on him, but anyways. He bought the car and an engine and put it all together and fixed a few other things, then sold it to us for like 1600 or 1800 I don't remember, it was actually less then that since he bought one of our other cars that was aging.
While driving it to see family one day I hear a very loud clunk from under the car and the engine died and would not refire. We towed it back to his place and it took him quite a while to look at it, but when he did he said the Harmonic Blancer broke(a known problem with the tbirds, but I also later found out he had dropped the engine when installing it, so this probablly didn't help). We tried and tried to find a new one to replace it to no avail. Now he is saying that a pulley of some sort is also broken. While I am not 100% sure, i believe this to be the crank pulley. He is not doing this for money, we will pay him something if he fixes it, but not near enough, so don't think he is trying to get money out of us. But then I find out that the engine in this car is the engine still being used in the current mustang and that parts should be easily available through Ford, so I am not sure whats up with that, btu anyways onto the price.
Cliffs Notes for the laxy
Again the car is a 1990 Ford Tbird with 170,000+ on the car and 80,000+ on the engine, it has a brand new set of tires, nothing fancy, cost like 200 bucks total, but they probablly only have like 50 miles on them. If it is indeed the parts I think that are broken, I have found out they would run about 500-600 dollars. I don't really have an accurate way of appraising this myself, since edmunds and KBB obviously won't let me put in 2 differant mileage amounts.
So heres what i think, I am pretty sure we paid 1600.00 for it as well as 100.00 trade in for that other car we gave him, making it 1700.00. I then installed a new starter when the original died, but that didn't cost much, then theres the 200.00 tires(which if I sell this real cheap, then I may keep these for another car). So figure 1900.00 minus some usage of a coupel months, figure its worth even 1750.00 in good working order. Even if it costs 750 to fix it, the car should be worth 1000.00 in its current condition? Do you think i will be able to get anywhere close to that without having to wait forever. I mean sure its only worth what someone is willing to pay, but I would rather sell it quick for a hundred or 2 less then sell it for more in 6 months.
Or should I just keep the tires and try to sell it for 750.00?
