'98 Toyota Corolla..

Sumitomo SRIXON4
..
or Kumhos..or Yokohamas..

I had Bridgestone Weatherforce tires (175/65/R14) on a while back, and I wasn't happy with them at all. I had to replace two (snow), so I bought cheap Aurora all-seasons -- they worked okay, but I'm back in Florida...and I don't have to deal with snow anymore. I have two Aurora's up front and two Bridgestones in the back, but they're all getting worn, and I want to put something halfway decent on this time.

My local Sears store has Kumho Ecstas (can't remember the number..I think HP4 716) for under 40 bucks apiece, but they only have two in stock...if they can order more at the sale price, I may get them -- but it seems way too cheap (I paid $37.95/ea for the Auroras, and they're crappy).

I'm mostly looking for cornering performance, but straight-line grip is nice -- I want better than a 2.375 60'. =)

I bought 4 of the Kumho Ecsta 716s for my minivan from tirerack.com 2 months ago. I based the purchase on the cheap price and the glowing reviews of the tire at tirerack. I must concur - so far the have been great and justify the praise (VERY well balanced, excellent in the rain, no vibration, and fairly quiet).

I like Yokohamas myself but the thought of only spending $40 per tire makes me jealous:p

Heh..I have a love/hate relationship with my 14" alloys..lol

The major downside is I can't really go wider than a 185 series tire (and it doesn't look the greatest)..the upside is that tires are really, really cheap.

Damn you Aquaman! You could have probably bought the tires I have now for like $30 a piece instead of the $110 I paid!:|

Have you looked at the Bridgestone Potenza RE-950/Turanza LS-T tires? I have the RE-950's on my car and the car sticks to the road like glue. These tires Have the UNI-T additive in them and it makes all the difference in the tires. These tires even stick to the road in rain. The only way I know it's raining is because I see it. I don't feel it in the tires.

The Turanza LS-T's are Rated for 80,000 miles (Touring) and 45,000 miles for the Potenza RE-950s (Performance)

Edit: Oh and the Entertainment book has 25% off a set of 4 at the Firestone stores.

I see the RE-910 in my size -- is that basically the same as the 950?

The RE910's have a 60,000 mile warranty and have the UNI-T technology. They're more expensive, but well worth it.

The 910's have the 1st generation UNI-T, which isn't bad. The Turanza LS-T's have the 2nd generation UNI-T.
My last car I had some tires with the 1st generation UNI-T and it was pretty good, I do notice some improvement mainly in wet weather with the 2nd gen UNI-T.

If you can get a good price on the 910's go for it, otherwise go for the Turanza LS-T's.

Potenza RE-910

Turanza LS-T

heheheh

I have experience with the bridgestone Potenze RE950 in three cars in the family (2 Hondas and an Audi), they are excellent tires. Tires are not something you want to skimp on for your car. Get teh best ones you can afford.

Although the RE950 are a little more expensive than the other brands you mentioned, they are worth it for an all-season. The RE950 are directional tires, so if you want something that may last longer through tire rotations, get the RE930i. Both of these bridgestones are High preformance all seasons.

I would suggest the Yokohama ES100 if you want really good summer tires in the 185/60/14 size, but they tend to wear a bit quickly and make noise towards the end of their tread life. They are after all, summer only tires. These ES100 will have a bit more grip than the RE950, but less tread life.

You can plus size to a 185/60/14 on your app, up from the 175/65/14.

They have all these ratings like traction in certain surfaces, but anyone know of a similar thing for rolling resistance? Trying to get more mileage.

Nope, to my knowledge that kind of rating doesn't exist.

I bought Kumhos for my 99 Honda Accord from tirerack.com after reading all the reviews on there. They are really nice, much better than the more than 2.5 times the cost Michelin MVX4 Plus tires that were on there before.... they are quieter, better grip (can take curving freeway connecting ramps at 70+ now, where the Michelins would squeal so I had to slow down)
