YACT: I just was behind the wheel of an 05 mustang GT manual!!!

I was about to leave my parents house, about 3 miles from a ford dealership on some country back roads and I was just starting the ignition on my mustang when I exclaimed "HOLY SH!T," much to the panic of the people seeing me off. A white 05 mustang had just sailed around our bend and floored it up the hill.... I took off in persuit, figuring it was destined for the local ford dealer. I entered the dealership, pointed at my mustang and explained what I had just witnessed and my salivating interest. As I was taken back into the shop, walking under ford 500's up on lifts... etc... it was explained to me that this is the first V8 they've gotten and it was meant for a manager who has since backed out. Every other mustang GT they're due to recieve for months is reserved, but this one was up for grabs.

In the back of their garage, mid-state inspection... there it was.....

Asking price... for every feature including the disc changer, but minus the top end sound system and with manual trans was upper 27k's. They let me start it up, put it in gear and putz around with it, but since they didn't have plates ready (or since I didn't leave them a kidney at the door) they really didn't want me going anywhere with it.

What a fvcking amazing car. I really didnt see anything wrong with the 99-04 interior except for cupholder placement for manual transmission cars and the center console being seriously in the way of getting road head, and it being seriously difficult to have sex anywhere in it.... but the back seats are just as roomy (except for the low ceiling) as the back of a full size sedan and everything was perfect. My only serious gripe about it was that the window line (i think you call it the girdle?) was way too high to be able to do things like use the whole door as an armrest or climb half way out the car in heavy traffic to see whats going on.....

On a funny note, the second I said... "its a shame I can't do white," the car was suddenly on one side of the lot and I was on the other. Before you compare me to the cobra guy, please remember that 1) I'm a college kid and 2) the only thing I said even alluding to my wanting to buy was that I am a current mustang owner and I think I'm in love with the 05's and that I wanted to see one up close to be sure.

either way.... acemcmac gives this torquey beast 10/10

So you just sat in the car? Did you at least make "VROOM, VROOM" sounds? :p;)

I putzed around in it, gave it gas and let it coast around the parking lot... did my usual "I drive a mustang and don't have to slow down for turns" at about 20mph so I would be able to feel the greatly improved steering and suspension. Nothing that the sales reps could possibly construe as hair raising.... I have more respect for them than most people

That's probably the one car I would consider buying over a WRX/STi, depending on my finances at the time of purchase.

While I can appreciate the desire to go back to when Mustangs looked good, it's still a bloated car. I'll smoke it in my Subaru

Actually, thats true about the bloated look. The 94-97 was the non-bloated look and the 00-04 have a bigger frame and the 05 is just :Q

Subaru's have their place. I wouldn't dare buying a new mustang GT without immediatley buying a used subaru legacy for foul weather. THAT thing was unstoppable

only thing stopping me is I can't bear to let go of my current mustang :(

acemcmac = American fanboi
TheLonelyPhoenix = Japanese fanboi

We clash from time to time :) And eventually a German car fanboi shows up and smokes us both.

I saw an 05 stick legacy Gt parked the other day... man that was hot... can't wait to own one from the current generation as a beater down the line.... I drove a 97 legacy my parents owned for the "kids" to use before I bought the mustang and BOY do I have great memories of that car :) (ironic because I was actually shopping for a lecacy and came home with a mustang)

That's exactly why I like my '95. I've been waiting for them to get rid of the 00-04 sheetmetal.

When I went car shopping the idea of buying a Subaru had never crossed my mind. Then I walked past what would turn out to be my new car and immediately fell in love. The turbo and AWD didn't hurt either! A coworker and I have been trying to get together to see who can go faster. He drives an R32, should be interesting.

funny you should say that.... that's one of the only mustang generations that I really can't stand looking at or driving in..... the V6 especially was a DOG

I knew when I went car shopping that a base engined model legacy would be unaccetable.... the 97ish years are simply too slow to be able to merge safley around here... I knew I'd have to get a turbo... and then when it occured to me that a mustang was so much cheaper, yet so much more powerful (plus RWD handling) than the legacy, I just passed over
