YACT - I have limited car buying experience... need some personal advice.

A quick history -

I've owned about three vehicles, the first was an '88 Jeep Commanche my Dad gave me as my first 'learning' vehicle. The second was a 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 that was a present from my uncle for graduation. The third was a 2000 Dodge Ram Extended Cab that I bought from another uncle who is GM of the largest Dodge dealer in Mississippi.

Needless to say I don't have much experience buying cars because I've never had to price negotiate for a vehicle. I know somewhere on these forums is a master hagger that can give me some tips (specific to vehicles) when I go shopping for this new car.

Here's a link to Honda's site with specs and MSRP ($23,900): 2005 Honda Accord Coupe EX w/ Leather

I live in Hawaii, on O'ahu... which some people believe will increase the price of the car; logic tells me it should be cheaper here than the mainland US since Japan is a hell of a lot closer to Hawaii than the west or east coasts of the US.

I've negotiated many real estate investment deals and I would imagine the principles of negotiation I've learned from that could be applied to car buying, but I don't know if there are specific pitfalls I should be wary of!

hlep! 🙁

I'm also pretty set that the color has to be either black or silver, although I imagine this could impact my potential pool of available cars to haggle on...

The best place to start is to go to the dealership with full intent to NOT buy the car right now, NO MATTER WHAT, and ask what their best price is. Then say thanks and go to another dealership and do the same thing. Be aggressive and efficient; you don't need to spend three hours dicking around at the second place. Let them know that you're short on time, but that "I'm buying a car within the next week.", to diminish the chances of being dicked around. Play them against each other.
