i went and picked up a 2003 mazda protege yesterday (traded in my mx-6 for it *sniff*). its black and shiny. i would like to maintain the car in this brand new condition for as long as possible. any tips / hints?

btw, we made the salesman very VERY happy yesterday. i picked up a 2003 mazda protege, my aunt picked up a 2003 mazda mpv, and my uncle picked up a 2004 mazda rx-8. my cousin's gonna check on his insurance rates and then prolly come back to pick up a 2004 nissan 350-z (touring package).

that's 4 cars. one salesman. actually, one VERY happy salesman.

May I suggest reading the novel about the spanish guy named "Manual" that came with your car(s) in the glovebox?

Congrats on the purchases though.

Congrats on all your cars..
The protege has nice styling..

Jus make sure you oil change it regularly, dont push the engine too hard at first and if its got those hard to maintain alloy rims, clean em regularly , cuz brakedust is a pain to clean when its neglected.
I'm sure you can find a good Mazda/protege forum to subscribe to, also.

Your cousin will be very happy with the 350 Z i bet. I parked next to a silver one a few days ago (in my white gs4) and it blew my car's styling away. The 18 inch rims are sexy !

AJ.

you should put some sugar in the gas tank to coat the inside of it so the gas can flow better.

congrats on the new car.:p

bump for more tips...

evadman: done and done
wink osmosis: the dealership stocks both nissans and mazdas
ajpa: thanks for the tip on the rims, i was noticing that the crap they put to make the tires shiny at first has already made the rims very dirty.

are there any good sites / forums to read up on maintaining the exterior? i've noticed already after a day that the black is very very hard to keep looking good. however i've seen a couple of black cars around campus that looks like they never get dirty... (either that or they're cleaned like every day).

How much under or at invoice did you get the cars at? If you bought 4 cars from one guy he should have cut you one hell of a deal.

Anyway congratulations. I might be buying a new car myself tomorrow, so I hope to feel the same way you do now :)

It's not the tire shine. It's dust from the brake pads. That's why the front wheels have a bigger problem with it than the back wheels, the front brakes do more work (something like 60%-70% of the braking force is from the front wheels under normal circumstances, under really heavy braking the rear end is basically doing nothing except keeping the trunk located).
