YACT: I apologize, but here is another "help me make my mind" car thread!

Great news! My friend is close friends with a car salesman at a Volkswagen dealership about 30 minutes north of me. They just recently got two new trade-ins and the salesman talked to my friend and gave me some really good quotes:

1997 Nissan Maxima... 90k miles, leather... listed @ $7,999, will sell it to me for $6000.

1993 Nissan 240SX Convertible... black w/ black top, 83k miles, leather... listed @ $5500, will sell to me for $3800

Insurance will be a little higher on the Maxima and it costs more upfront, but it is faster, roomier, and am assuming the interior is in nicer condition.

The 240SX convertible is cheaper, has cheaper insurance, and will be easier to work on (RWD). And its a convertible, so with summer around the corner I'd be in heaven =)

Are these good deals or no? They havent even run the cars through the detailing shop and I need to buy ASAP, I sold my Honda.

im not into convertibles... plus that top is 10 years old and probably looks cracked and faded.

97. 93 is too old, and a convertible and err sportscar right? more abuse likely. stuff near breaking, lots of stuff u'll have to replace soon.

I'd go with the 240sx, since its a convertible and has lowwer milage. But either one sounds acceptable.

I would buy the 240sx if I were you. That maxima is an awesome price though and if not for the fact it's surely an auto I'd almost buy it myself now.

Of course we all know you're buying neither of these cars

The Maxima sounds like the practical choice. You DO NOT want to be driving around in a RWD convertable during Winter in Ohio!
