YACT: Humming Noise

My car (1997 Ford Expedition) hums when I am not pressing on the gas. If I tap the gas even very slightly, the hum stops, but starts again when I let off the gas. Any Ideas?

The problem is your idle air control valve. You can clean it, but it really should be replaced. Very easy fix.

Here's a quick, but likely temporary fix: Get it warmed up to where it's making noise. Remove the plastic cover on top of the engine, which is covering the IAC. Take a wrench, butt of a big screwdriver, or a small hammer and tap the valve. Your noise will stop, or at least lessen.
