YACT: How should I get my exhaust done on my truck?

I'm getting my brothers old GMC running and part of keeping it legal is it needs new mufflers. Besides sounding like ass they have a hole the size of a canteloupe in it. I've already got the mufflers I want picked out but I was curious as to how I should get my pipes routed. The truck looks like this:

Text

It already has the pipes coming back and curving out just before the tires. I'm fine with this but the other person doing the funding thinks we should get new tailpipes that just come straight back. We decided to leave it to you guys. So far pros for leaving it as is = cheaper, cons = more exhaust goes up near the cab if I am stopped for a long time.

Sticking in front of the rears looks sweet, especially when you're doing a brakestand and the exhaust sends the smoke flying :D

If I wasnt lazy, I would go take a pic of how mine is done.

Almost straight out the back, except they tucked the pipes way up under, and you only see the tips where they curve down at the bumper.

Ahhh WTH, went down and took the pic anyway. Link

OK, now I made another trip downstairs so you could see it from a different angle. Link Thats kneeling down, standing up you can hardly see the pipes at all.

we had a '90 dakota and my brother ended up putting flowermasters on it. iirc, the second pipe was fake, just there for looks. two chrome pipes sticking out the back, it looked good at least :)

Have the pipe end in the middle of the bed and face the pipe towards the ground. The exhaust sounds better/deeper because the sound bounces between the ground and the underside of the car. I think it is called a "dump."

Because it's not a matter of performance or what not, it's how it looks. BTW it's gonna be Flowmasters but not necessarily straight pipes. And I can't have just one pipe, it's real dual exhaust, headers and all ;)

Is that Cragers on there? Nice!

How about side pipes, or are the headers routed wrong for those?

Not the exact truck, just the same body. Atm the one I am doing this to is like 6 colors :D I think it's still got the stock rims but I actually think they look good, and they're free ;) I don't think the headers are routed right for side pipes, even them I'm not a fan of them. There's a lowered 1500 with side pipes, but it's got a 454, a blower and some other stuff. This is just gonna be my lifted work truck :p

Do you plan on launching boats with it? If you do, make sure you don't go straight back.... It shouldn't matter either way with a full-size truck, but I sometimes have to launch my boat in rough waters....my old Jeep Cherokee would sometimes get too close to the water and the tailpipe would hit the water.

Stock out the back like it came from the factory. I hate vehicles with loud aftermarket exhausts and absolutely abhor harley drivers with their loud ass pipes.

I know the saying.. loud pipes saves lives... but its not necessary to set off the car alarms while driving by. Loud vehicles should be banned.

Straight pipe out the back with no mufflers:)

My uncle runs his 96 chevy this way and it has a nice rumble to it without attracthing any cops.

Nice truck man. Id suggest out the side before the tires just because 90% of the trucks i see have the pipes straight out the back. You mentioned lifting it, any idea how much lift your gonna run?
