Lets say, theoretically, Booga here gets a 67 or so Corvette somehow that doesn't run and has old paint. And lets say, theoretically of course, that Booga wants to change every part in the car and get it running once again, including new paint. Without any labor, how much would this theoretically cost? I'm just looking for an estimate, as in 15 - 20K, 10-15k, 20-25k, that kind of a range. I know it depends what parts I want to use, but I want a very rough estimate here with some decent parts.

Couple of questions ;

Will you be doing any of the work or are you planning to farm all of it out ?

What type of restoration are you looking for, a daily driver or a show vehicle ?

I will be doing most of the work with help from my dad and maybe a friend or two who do car mods a lot, but haven't done anything like this. Mostly though, my dad and I. This will not be a daily driver, this will be something I take out from time to time. It doesn't have to be a 67, that was just a year I picke dout of the air. I basically want, as a project before my senior year in high school, to get a chassis of a nice old car, put everything together, and then get it painted and detailed all over.

This would be something I take out on a weekend if its a nice day or something.

I want to get an idea of cost so that this summer I can save up how ever much my parents won't help pay for.

Expect it to cost $20,000 for a good job, $10,000 to get it on the road and not have it look like it should be in the bone yard.

Really? If thats the case for a 67 vette, I'm not really going to go after that. I want to restore some old car before senior year for the learning experience and for having a car to drive once or twice a month on a good day.

'67s with matching numbers go in the mid thirties.

Without matching numbers about $20K.

Without engine, in good shape, I'd say lower teens.

Needing paint, no engine, interior in good shape, maybe $10K.

Needing paint, no engine, needing interior restoration, about $7K or $8K.

or a 65 66 mustang. You can practically build one with parts from a magazine.

Oh and its almost always cheaper to buy somebody elses completed project than to restore one yourself.

I'm surprised Heisenberg suggests the paint price is so high...
I'm guessing in the hundreds; that is, if you're going to do all the work yourself...
Or, unless you're insisting on a bottle of paint that was made in the 60's...

How exactly do you suggest he does all the painting work himself? Do you suggest he builds himself a paint shop and buys all the tools required?

To totally redo a 1966 Mustang GT in 1988 or so it cost us $45,000. That was almost all our own labor. Down to every bolt was removed and refinished with NOS/Refinished or replaced with reproduction if original/NOS was not obtainable.

Not saying the car was worth $45k....however it was better than new when done, even smelled like a brand new car.

Corvettes are more pricey....however, I would not recommend replacing every part, unless you are not going to drive it....
