I am in Cali, but need to get an emmissions test on my car which is registered in MD...

I believe the only tests i need are
Gas Cap Check
On-Board Diagnostic Test

Califirnia smog costs about $50. I doubt you're gonig to find a mechanic in CA that knows what to do for a MD smog. Further, I doubt you can even send a CA smog certificate back to MD with your registration and have it count for anything. Call the DMV or a smog inspection place.

MD should be able to tell you what you actually need to registration.

Take it to a CA shop and then ask them.

Price should not be any higher than what CA requires.

I would think just taking the test would be fine. If I remember correctly, a smog check in CA (when I last did my car 4 months ago) involved the gas tank check, the on-board diag and the emissions. The certificate they give you will show your read-outs and if it passes here, I'm pretty sure it'll pass in MD.

Of course, this is just me thinkin, call.

Yep, the certificate does have all that information on it. Point being, I'm sure if it passes Cali it'll be np in MD.
