1981 Chevy Custom Deluxe with a 350 under the hood.

I'd do it myself, but with working and such.. I just don't want to bother. But it needs to be fixed because it's going to make the whole engine bay all nasty.

Front seal as in the timing chain cover round one behind the harmonic balancer or the front rubber one on the oil pan? I've had to replace both of them and they both kinda suck. If the harmonic comes off easy enough its not a bad job actually. The oil pan one is worse cause you have to loosen alot of oilpan bolts. Cost? No idea.

Screw that. I'd leave it leak till I was ready to have the whole engine rebuilt. I'm thinking about $250.00 to accomplish not much.

Take it to a shop or call a shop and ask. I am not sure how hard it is to do an that early a model, but on a new model it can be kind of expensive.

On my LT1 it is pretty straight forward to replace the crank seal. Pull the balancer, pry out the old seal, tap new seal in, replace balancer. Shouldn't take more than a couple hours for a newbie.

trick is finding the right shop. it could cost as little as 150 with a good mom-and-pop type reliable mechanic.

The engine only has 30,000 miles on it, it isn't going to need to be rebuilt for a long, long time. I think it started leaking because it sat unused for a few months at a time for like a year+.

I'm losing over a quart a week now, it's really making the engine bay all nasty. I need to get it fixed.
