Bascially I want a new car! Dont we all.

Right now I drive a 95 Subaru Legacy wagon that was given to me a few weeks ago. I just plain hate it! It drives poorly, brakes arent very good, acceleration is pitiful, uncomfortable, noisy, ugly, and I just plain hate it. I use it mostly to just go to work which is a good 30min drive each way 5 times a week. Plus I run around the city so having more ummpph is wanted.

If you want to know how bad it is to drive it makes my moms 04 accord I-4 look like a sports car, it actually accelerates decently, and brakes much much better.

So my motives to buy a new car are based on a couple things. a)I need more get up and go especially for highway driving b)I just dont feel safe in it, the brakes just honesly suck, and it feels a bit flimsy so I doubt it would survive a crash to well.

So Iv already got a car I want to buy. Its a 2002 Subaru WRX and Iv already driven it and now Im spoiled. It drives great! And just feels so much better! And yes someone will bring up my age and "how will your mum allow it". Yes im 16 but I dont drive like it. I dont want to get a ticket so I DONT speed and I dont drive like a crazy SOB. I just want something that will get up and go (I do acceleration not top speed) and yes be cool.

The problem is not affording it at this point, its holding out to save up some more :( What I plan to do is buy the car for 14kish, which isnt unreasonable theres actually several around me that I can buy. I also plan to have a 8k down payment. I will be paying for the whole thing myself. my dad will help me with 100 each month, I will pay for gas, what ever is left of car payment, and help mom with the insurance.

Theres two problems. Firstly my dad for some reason wants me to keep this car he gave me around 1 year. I definatly DONT want to do that, and he holds a large portion of money for me. Secoundly is I dont have the money JUST yet. I will however have it by the time September comes to (my birthday).

I just dont know how to hold out! Its torturous driving this car and knowing something 100x better is on the horizon. What can I do so I dont drive myself crazy?

You may be able to afford the car if you save ALL your money...but how will a 16 y/o who is barely able to afford the car in the first place pay insurance on a 2002 WRX?? Have you even looked at a quote?

Just get something older and cheaper until you have enough money to afford the nice car AND the high insurance cost.

I'll tell you how ... You shutup, sit down, and know your place!
He probably wants you to drive that car for a year to get use to driving. He knows more than you do so you sit down!

How can you be driving for 2 years when you are just 16? But it don't matter, you need more experience.

Maybe you should make sure the car isn't in need of anything... spark plugs/plug wires, air filter, no clogged fuel injectors, etc. Could be part of the problem.
Oh, and as far as "being 16 but not driving like it," drunk people usually think they drive just fine too.

Maybe his air filter is stuck in one of his fuel injectors?

Your dad wants you to drive the beater for a year because the odds are high you'll have an accident.

And you know what, I didn't even mention making sure he wasn't low on blinker or halogen fluid!

I dont think anything is wrong wiht it. Its got a 4 speed, awd and 138hp. Its gonna be slow, I already knew that but it is handy to beable to get to 70mph a little quicker.

Kid, at 16 you don't have the experience to drive a car like that responsibly. You may get away without having an accident, but it'll be luck and not skill.

If the brakes suck, either fix them (pads/rotors are cheap) or buy better tires. There's no reason they shouldn't work well.

Keep in mind that your tires are the only part of your car that's touching the road..they're important..

most 16 year olds want something better, I had to realize that my 88 LeBaron (which is worlds worse than what you have) was all I was going to have until I got a much better job full time and grew up a bit. at 16 you're doing damn good. take it from me! at 16 I did not have a car, at 17 I was just getting my license so I could drive on my own, and well into my 17th year, I got my $300 car... finally at 19 i was able to afford a new car. (which I still have at 24)
