YACT: Help With Disc Brakes Please :D

To start, I have this squeaking from my front end and it stops only when I brake. I figure it could be the tattle tale on the brakes or what not so I take the wheel off and let my pa have a look. He says its fine and I trust him(he's on medication, whoops). So it doesn't go away and I ask a mechanic and he says it's the brakes. I pop the tire off and find that there's a little groove in my fuggin rotor. As well, there's a little bit of tiny metal it looks like on my brakes. I took some pics, advice would be nice.

Its hard to tell without take the pads off. Sometimes the calipers can get stuck and only one pad will wear (had this happen). The groove itself wouldn't make noise; there'd have to be something stuck to the pad.

new rotors are around $40, so its not a bad idea to replace it.

My only thing about the groove was I heard someone say that if your brakes get too low, your tattle tale can pwn your roters

Could you get a bett shot of the pad, it looks like there's plenty on there but its pretty dark. You also might look at the other side.

The groove is normal with wear that happens.

If the wheel or peddle does not shake or have a shaky feal to it when yoiu hit the brakes you just need to lub the calipers, if you have a good amount of pad left.

Ok, I brightened up the pic a bit and it looks like you have plenty of pad. I'd take the pad off and check if maybe there is anything under it. This should be pretty easy. There should be a bolt on both ends of the calipers. Take one off and loosen the other. The caliper asssembly should be able to be swing out. Check for debris or other obvious things and let us know.

The second pic is no help.

In the first pic, the pad looks like there is a lot left on it. Sure has enough anti-squeal icing around it Looks like an Oreo squished together.

Seriously, sometimes those tattle tale wear indicator are on the long side. Just bend it away so it will touch when the pad is about 3/16" thick. Put just a dab of grease on those dry stud threads, mmm..k

I wouldn't worry about the rotor(from the pictures they look normal). If it was my car and the disc brake pads have more than 15k on it, I would just change them and use the anti-vibration glue stuff on the back of the pads and reinstall. I've seen many rotors in worse shape than yours and they work fine...

Grooves are harmless. Your rotor could be warped though.

If it's warped and you have plenty of metal left, you can have it turned for about $15 each. It's a good option if it's an expensive rotor.
