My friends 98 Civic HX is making loud sounds when he hits the throttle. He thinks it's a "leak" in his exhaust. Anyone know of any good sites that could give him some information on Civic exhaust repairs and/or civic exhausts to purchase.....?

His muffler's probably rotted out. Just crawl under the car when it's running and see where the noise is coming from.

What kind of sounds? Define "when he hits the throttle". Is it only under acceleration and no different at cruise? Or is it also louder at cruise than normal?

The other day, i noticed its louder while im accelerating. While im just cruising....its fine, sounds normal. It sounds like there is more air escaping, being forced out. When i downshift and decelerate, it kinda sounds like I have a blow off valve...Hard to explain. No difference in performance or handling. So I'm thinkin its an exhaust leak.

Any recommendations for a nice stainless steel exhaust, which is low profile, not too loud and annoying. Something with a deep growl would be perfect. Thanks in advance for help.

Your car has a 1.6 litre engine. Nothing you do will make it have a "deep growl", it's just too small. At best it will sound like a more powerful weed-eater. An engine needs to have more displacement to get a deep sound, it's just the way things work. In all honestly, I'd recommend either a stock Honda exaust or a basic replacement from Midas.

If you want deep try a Remus muffler. No bull. They sound awesome, even on a 1.6 My cousin had one years ago on his '90 Civic DX hatch. Wasn't loud at all but was very deep.

BS the old Folgers coffee can will do the trick!

Maxwell House will give you a extra ~5 hp at the wheels as opposed to Folgers... supposedly dark roasts give you more low-end torque....
