YACT: Help me decide on a new car.

My '03 Cobra is too much car and too expensive as I've decided to go back to school to finish my degree. I decided I want to spend no more than $300 a month on a car. I can get $28K in trade and I owe about $26K. I can sell the mods too. My insurance will drop too. The Cobra is in the same category as the Viper( more expensive than a Z06).

If I trade the Cobra in I can get the '05 Legacy GT lease for $300 a month. I like the AWD and its as fast as a Mustang GT with a nicer interior.

I was also debating on the SRT-4 but doubtful.

Used isn't out of the question. I want descent power, handling, and styling.

Any ideas? I want to begin my search so i have an idea what to look for. I dont know much about cars other than the Cobra i own. I've never had it at the track but I know based on other people with similair mods its a high 11 second car. It's too fast, 100mph comes up in the middle of third and I never really drive it hard enough to justify its ownership.

Thanks..........Matt

Legacy GTs are great. Are you sure you want to lease? Because if you don't like the Legacy GT after a year or two, like the Cobra, you won't be able to trade it in or sell it if you lease it.

That is not true. I traded a leased Toyota Tundra after 2 1/2 years on a 3 year lease. I didn't lose any money on it either. The payoff on the lease was within a couple hundred dollars of what they gave me on trade. You can payoff a lease at any time. The question is will the car's value at the end of the lease be equal to the payoff on the lease.

the SRT and Legacy GT are in 2 totally seperate classes, I love the SRT-4, but no one can deny that the Legacy GT is a nicer car.

the SRT is a quick little mofo though... if I could buy either, I'd take the Legacy, but of course, it's more $. the SRT is awesome for the price.

I don't have anything against it, I'm just saying that going from a cobra to what looks like a station wagon isn't exactly great. I would get the SRT-4 though.

I think going from a Cobra to a cheap econobox is a bigger joke. At least the Legacy is a well-built car with a nice interior and doesn't look like it just rolled out of a HIN show.

I was just figuring on keeping the payment down. What about a used BMW or Audi?

What kind of payment are you looking for?

For example, friend at work just got a 2001 or so 323 convertible from a dealer. The payment is a $500 a month for 5 years. No thanks.

Maybe get a less expensive car rather than leasing so you can get a car you can't really afford. Don't go from one poor financial decision to another.
