YACT: Help me choose a camera....

I've made up my mind, I want a new camera for christmas.
Here is what I am looking for:

~$250.
Can be Digital, or SLR.
If digital, have decent optical zoom.
If SLR, include lens suggestions.

I like to take pictures of wildlife, and wide shots of the sky and scenery, just FYI.

Suggestions?

To FearoftheNight:

I understand why you say, RIAA is EVIL #1 but how does de beers beat out microsoft or OPEC? Or is there something about de beers I don't know (other than the whole monopoly thing).

Another vote for the Canon A80 or G3. Both can be expanded with add on lenses and the G3 can be used with Canon's Speedlite series of flash guns.

Both of these cameras are above your budget, but IMO it's worth it to not have to deal with film and getting it developed. With digital you can erase what you don't like at no additional cost. And you don't have to goto the lab until your good and ready if you want prints.

For $250, your digital options are kind of limited. You can get a Canon PowerShot A70 for just a bit more than that, but it might not have enough optical zoom (3X) for your taste.

Of course, a decent 35mm SLR with a lens will cost more than $250 as well. You might want to save up another month or two, and buy your camera after the post-Christmas markdowns.

Sorry, you need $899 to enter the digital SLR market...and that's excluding a lens!

I said "can be digital, or SLR" not both. I know how expensive DSLRs are, pal. 😛
