YACT - head bolt set for old jeep motor

Been looking for a head bolt set for my '43 "ford" jeep. It has a later model "F" head motor with the overhead valve. Of course nobody I have called has such a set. I had to replace the head gasket on it and while removing the head broke one of the head bolts.

Upon inspection of the other bolts I found that i reaaaaally need a new set. I was going to replace them with some standard grade 8 bolts but I noticed that the bolts have 1/4" or so of a shoulder on them so I would like to find an "official" head bolt set if possible. Any leads are appreciated

If you are doing it right, run a tap in all the bolt holes to clean them out. Replace all the head bolts. If this is a restoration head size and markings on the bolt head are a consideration. If this unit has not run in many years, I hope you dropped the oil pan and clean it out. Now that the old fart lecture is out of me try these guys, they are THE
engine bolt supplier...Text...Do not be put off by the high performance image of this site. Measure your bolts with a dial caliper and I bet they will have what you need. They are in Canoga Park=cheep shipping.

The last f-head I saw was an Indian m/c in a museam...........🙂

I would suggest you give ARP a call. They have just about any bolt for any application and the quality of their products is the highest...in fact there is no better fasteners in existence for normal applications that I know of. I has a similar problem when I needed head bolts for my '57 T-Bird. There was no where to get a set of head bolts so I measured my bolts and called ARP and they sent me a set that would work in my application. It is more expensive to buy individual bolts but it no set exists then you don't have much choice anyway unless you want to continue blowing head gaskets.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to this, I was snowed in yesterday :frown:

Here are the responses I received. They most are local to the Detroit area, but I am sure all would be willing to ship them.

Call Dave Groh @ Yesteryear Ford, he does museum restorations on old fords, and he's got a gpw that you wouldn't belive, including the browning 50 cal machine gun. he can get you head bolts, he also has f script bolts in stock for your gpw resto projects.

Try these places. I've never had to get a new head bolt for my Fhead yet, but these three companies deal with old jeep stuff. They may have something if you can't find something locally.

Sounds like he's not talking about the bolts with the Ford "F" script on them from the early Ford GPW's, sounds like he's just looking for head bolts for a F-head 134ci 4cyl engine, as apposed to the L-head 134ci 4cyl.

The F-head 4cyl was used all the way into the late 60's, someone should still make head bolts for it, if not, I have a couple F-head engines that could probably donate parts.

A couple of places to call.
