YACT: Habitual Trouble Starting

Spooner

Lifer
It seems latetly that when if I leave my car sitting for longer than a day or two, it goes dead and won't start, but easily starts with a quick jump.

MY local garage states that my alarm may be malfuntioning and actually drains the battery even when turned off.

My dealer states that it may cost $300-400 to rewire and dismantle a third-part alarm system!?!?!?

What do you guys think?

How old is the battery? Leave the lights on a while back and drain it?

Mine is doing the same thing. If the temp stays above 25F or so, I seem to be ok. But, in moving stuff out of my house and to my dad's (sold my house), I had the trunk open for about 5-10 min. and the light on was enough to keep the car from starting. Car is 7 years old, though.

Try pulling the alarm fuse (or disconnect its power) and see if the drain goes away.

That is, if killing the alarm's power doesn't disable your car 😛

yeah, i seem to be fine as well when it's not as cold, and no, lights are never left on and the battery is VERY new (replaced a couple of months ago)

I wouldn't really know how to even do this... 😱

Hmmm....ya got any mechanically-inclined friends around?

sounds like the battery is shot if it starts when it is warm and not when it is cold get a GOOD battery and go from there

It can't be the battery! It was just replaced! And it's a good battery.
