I have a question about legality of repossesing a vehicle on private property? Does the repo man have to have papers in hand and permission from they property owner to take a vehicle?

Or can they, the lean holder arbitrairily repo a vehicle with no warning or notice.
My GF car got repoed even though we've made every payment on time.

why would it get repo'd? if you paid everytime? No warning or anything? Repo men usually only come out after a lengthy wait.

they dont repo a car with NO reason... Call the lienholder ASAP if you are positive all payments were made on time. Someone might have messed up paperwork.

Oh i called, and the chicken sh!t owner won't answer the phone. The porter is aswering the phone. Oh, and other people that had bought cars there(7 total that i know) all had theirs taken last night too. All of us have made payments ontime.
So i'm thinkin this dude is gonna cut ship and bail, seeing as how he just bought the place last month from the previous owner.

Repo? Sounds to me like this guy just had an extra set of keys laying around and just drove off with them.

What kind of fly-by-night nut is holding your title, anyway? I'd call the lawyer and the police, probably in that order.

The repo man basically has the right to take the car from anywhere he finds it. If you have proof that all payments were made on time, then you may have a case against the owner. I'd forget about calling, and get down there for a face-to-face meeting to work this out. Make them show proof that they had a right to reposses. As far as the repo guy goes, he is pretty much not an issue. He was just doing the job he was told to do. I'd concentrate on the guy that sent him out.

You did post that your GF didn't have insurance, which almost any loan is going to require. If they found you not insured and couldn't get you insured, they can take the care back.

well this is a tote-the note place.
Other people that had gotten repoed all last night, had insurance.

So i think somethings up, and if he refuses to talk to anyone then you know somethings up.

How do you know that it was an actual repo? Did they actually load the car on a flatbed and drive away with it? Did anyone else see it happen?

well it happened late at night early morning, still dark. She called a friend to come get her to take her to work, and he said he was waiting on a ride cause his vehicle(from the same place) got taken too. So she called the place and the dude there said that they took it but couldn't say why.

So i'm going up there tomorrow with a few police friends and will be getting all our stuff out of the car, the only child seat she has for her kid is in that car, as is her wallet and ID. So i will get those back, or WW3 will start in garland texas.

Man, I hope you get your stuff back. That guy sounds like a creep.

Yet Another Car Thread

and i didn't have a choice as far as financing with one of these places. My GF's credit is screwed because of her x-husband, and i don't make enough for a legit dealership to give a loan to for a 2nd car.
