Anyone know if it is possible to fit a larger engine in an SE (has a 3.1L stock). Thinking of maybe getting a 3.8L for it (if i can get it to fit).

Why wouldn't it fit?

Of course, you might have to replace a lot of other parts under the hood, but assuming that the engine is in a Grand Prix anyway, yes I believe it would fit :p

Why in god's name would you consider a swap in a Grand Prix?

trade the car in for a GT / GTP.

engine swaps usually aren't worth it when you can just trade up to a car that has it stock.

This car has an amazing body with little to no rust (i repaired the bulk of it last year). The GT and GTPs i've seen aren't in as good of condition, and I've seen engines that coszt ~500 bucks (need rebuilds), which is much cheaper than getting a whole new car.

As opposed the perfect sense it makes when all the riceboys do it to their Civics?

A 3400 will be an exact replacement with no new mounts, wiring, etc needed.

Been there, done that.

Swapping a motor for a 70-100 hp increase isn't bad, plus considering there's thousands of parts to take it beyond that. How much extra HP does a badass, world renowned performance machine 3.8 have?

Apparently you've never seen any of the modified GTP's with the supercharged 3.8. They'll outrun any Civic dollar for dollar in modifications.

The point of this is that my current engine is starting to die, and I think I may want an upgrade. And besides, why not go bigger/better?

Well, at least for me it was hardly a swap. No mechanical mods necessary. Hell, even the exhaust bolted right up. A few connectors needed to be swapped and 4 wires added. Can't beat that for ease.

Of course not, I've only driven a lightly modded one. And your last statement is true for just about any car with stock forced induction. My point is, why bother with a swap if you can buy the car with the motor in it. And I don't know the numbers, but I don't think the power gains from a 3.1 to a 3.8 are that great, are they?

Edit, Well Toasted just gave the answer to my first question, if he's replacing the motor anyways, might as well go bigger/better if the motor will cost the same

Well, if what NutBucket said is true, then go for it. Either you do the swap, or rebuild the motor with better internals, the former will definitely be cheaper.

175hp -> 260hp, assuming he is swapping in the supercharged one.

He said he's seen the motor for $500, it can't be the blown 3.8 for that money unless it's incomplete or has a ton of milage.

That was in reference to my Honda;):)

I have no idea about the GP;)

Yea, the engines i've seen are higher mileage, but I would be rebuilding whatever i get (i may rebuild the 3.1L, still not sure oh what I am doing).
