YACT: Gotta Love Adjustable Shocks!

NutBucket

Lifer
So I've had Tokico Illuminas on my car for more then 3 years now. At first I just tuned them for street comfort. Well, last weekend I finally changed it to something more "aggressive". Man, what a difference! Understeer is totally gone:ccol; In fact, I can get the back to slide around if I really want it to😀 I'm sure I can get it a bit more tail-happy if I adjust the rear some more. Anyway, here are the pics:

Shock Adjuster (front)

If you don't know the specs you can pester me to add them.

i've always found the handling on my accord wagon to be fairly balanced once it gets over 40 MPH or so (tendancy is towards four wheel drifts that you can adjust with the throttle). were you having understeer at lower speeds or at all speeds? mine definetely plows at slow speeds.

Your FWD car will never be "tail happy" in the true sense of the phrase. Real curve loving sports cars (ie mid/rear engine RWD) can be quite a handful because of that tendancy, most ricers would end up sidelong into a concrete pillar if they tried 'throwing them through the twisties'. 😀

i know i will be looking at those for my focus around 100K or so. i know my shocks are going out slowly, it deflects a bit if it hits something on teh freeway, otherwise its straight as an arrow.

No, it won't. I agree with you there. But it is damned tail happy for a FWD car and that's all I can expect😉

AgaBoogaBoo, its a Tokico Advanced Suspension kit; $550 plus shipping for spring/shocks.

How is that a fart can? That looks like a nice aftermarket muffler. Definately not a fart can IMO.

.. you guys and your 'ricer' bias. Sheesh. 😛

🙂

Cause the gap in the bumper is large? Dual tips aren't any more appropriate and they were stock on other trim levels *shrug*. The piping behind it is 2.25"

EDIT: you guys can go dig up the thread where I asked if ppl thought the car was rice or not. This is an unrelated topic😉

I had Koni adjustables / Eibach springs on my old 89 Shadow Turbo, damn thing handled on rails, cut in on corners like butter

hows the ride quality on the higher settings? I got AGX Adjustables and they seem to have gotten crappier over the years.

Heh. I kinda wish I would have gotten Koni's instead but I don't think I'd be getting my money's worth. kevman, the ride quality is like that of a go kart at the high setting. I drove it like that once after I installed them. Right now the rear is set on 4 (out ot 5) and the fronts are set at 2. Have you got a drop with those AGX's? People tend to agree AGXs don't like higher spring rates or large drops.

Koni Yellow > Tokico Illumina > AGX as a generalization.

What setting do you have them on to induce this so-called oversteer?

I have my KYB AGX's at the lowest, softest setting for comfort (1/4 front, 1/8 rear) and the ride is bone jarring.
But it handles very nicely 😀
