It's sporty and moderately fast. That's around a low-mid 15 second car. Not too too shabby. It's meant to be fun to drive, hence the sporty. If all that mattered was power then his title would have been "Good balls to the wall sedan?"

I have an SE version and it has quiet a bit of umph off the line for a grocery getter, while still having a good deal of leg room in the back seat :)

there was this taurus SHO on the freeway today... it left me for dead when the driver floored it... lol... :)

A Late model Taurus SHO would be excellent. Since the SHO was discontinued in 1999, the prices for them are dirt cheap. You can buy a low-mileage, great condition, fully loaded V8 gen3 SHO for $10-15K (or less). This way, you can have a fast, luxurious, and durable daily driver that will last you for a few years when your dad can afford to go all out on a new sports coupe.

yeah, it's not as much fun as the manual counterpart, but it's far from suckage. It has pretty bad turbo lag <3k RPM, but if you need to get off with a jump giving some gas and braking will put the revs up, even though it's not that great to do a lot.. Oh, and if you're into it, it's very possible to drift an automatic-it's a great thing to do some awesome powerslides and such and then tell people it's an automatic. You get some fantastic expressions:D

I would also recommend looking into an Oldsmobile Aurora. The interiors are outstanding, and the 260+ HP V8 engine will definetely satisfy your need for power.

Aurora's are money pits. Ask any Aurora owner.

And I don't know if I would consider a late model Taurus SHO fast, luxorious OR durable. For a V8 they are slow. Unless you are counting the craptastic leather in them there isn't much luxury to them. And as far as durable, the interior is full of rattles and squeeks in short order.

At the 15k range, I'd personally look at a '00-'02 Maxima SE if I was in the market for a quick, well equipped, sporty and reliable sedan.
