hey guys
its that time when the car bug has bit me once again and Im looking into an 00' S430 with roughly 60k miles.
Any thoughts? Please help me with the pros and cons.
I live in new england, so for winter I will buy a 91/92 honda accord, which will also save me on insurance for those few months.
So convince me either way!

That's a lot of dimp for used car :Q

If you don't mind me asking, how much do you think you'll be able to get it for. Edmunds is showing like $45,000 for it.

I can pick one up for 35k$ (bargained down from 40k)

I will add the AMG rims to it to take away more of the 'old man car' image.

Also
I figured, resale value should be good down the line. I plan to keep it for atleast 5/6 years.
Even after 5/6 years, I should be able to get upper teens for the car. Or am I totally wrong.

Pros:
Attractive exterior
Powerful engine
Luxurious and technologically advanced interior
Safety
Prestigious nameplate, holds value well

Cons:
Extremely high cost of ownership (gas, insurance, repairs)
Very high purchase price for a 3 year old vehicle, even at $35K
Warranty is probably expired
Somewhat high mileage
MB reliability is not as good as other luxury brands

Bottom line, IMO, is that it's a very nice car, but it's expensive to buy and own (like most MBs, I suppose). If you really want one, though, $35K is not a bad price.

Have you cross shopped with other cars in that price range/class? What are you looking for in the car?

if you have to drive a 10+yr beater car in the winter to save on insurance, etc, you obviously can't afford it. There! Is that a good reason for you? ;)

Well, that or he just doesn't want to drive a RWD car with just shy of of 300HP in the winter and subject a $35,000 car to all the salt on the roads or worry about getting hit by some jackass that doesn't know how drive in snow properly.

Buy it... sell it for some profit... buy a used Porsche 911 C2 or another car that better fits your persona/needs. Heck, if you can turn around and sell the S430 for $45k, you can afford a used 2001 E46 M3.

AMG wheels will give you a "blingbling" image... making people think you're even more of a poseur, imho.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Yeah the 10 year old beater is to save the car from winter, insurance savings is just an added benefit.
the AMG rims do come on the car, as the sport package, I will just be upgrading to the newer CL ones, so there is nothing about being a poseur.

YES. That is a pimp ride. A friend of mine in HS had a 2000 S500 she got for her birthday. I LOVED THAT CAR.
