YACT: Fvcking Toyota

Yes, that's right. I'm bashing Toyota because my dad's truck has the most random problem I've every come across. It's an '89 4x2 regular cab, regular bed. For about the last year now its been hard to lift the hood. The driver's side hinge is binding. Well, today, my dad couldn't even lift it more the 6 inches before it just stopped. This makes zero sense!! Its never been in an accident. I can't figure out for the life of me why this would happen. Anyhow, it was gettin' kinda late so instead of taking things apart to get to the hinge we said screw it and we'll do it some other time.
I will complain about this tho...Why did they design it so that there's no way to get to the hinge without taking things apart? The hinge on this truck disappears into the cowl so it looks like I'll at least have to take the fender off to get to it. STUPID Toyota:| Good thing Honda makes their hinges easily accessible😉😛
But I really can't complain. This truck has had practically zero mechanical problems. I replaced the blower motor resistor and the hydraulics for the clutch (slave and master cynlinders) and that's been it.

I'd agree if the alternator died or the radiator blew up. I can't agree when its something as stupid as this....

The hinge pivot points SHOULD have been lube at the first sign of binding. A flashlight and a can of TRI-Flow with the spray tube attached could get the difficult ones. You know that 😉

I  Toyota, great resale because they are quality.

"But I really can't complain. This truck has had practically zero mechanical problems". Why don't you buy a Ford or Chevy truck? Your rant will be quite different.

Our last truck was an early 70's Chevy LUV (made by Isuzu). Talk about a POS.

And to those who say lube it. There's no way its a lube issue. If you look at both hinges you can easily see the range of motion is different. Something is bent IMHO.

Maybe I'm experiencing early withdrawls since I'll be without my car for a while as I'm finally sending it to the bodyshop🙁😀

Your right ! Lubing the hinge pivots is done at the 25 year service interval 😛

YACT just got my last post, far too many emotional experts/owners. 🙂

I'm no expert. Hell, I didn't even check what the service interval is. I just don't feel like tearing it apart or paying someone to do it.

Cheers  galvanizedyankee!

Don't pull a Roger and leave us!

bwahaha. my grandpa has one of those. when it's cold, it must make about 10 HP. it takes about 30 seconds to get through an intersection. but it has like 225,000 miles and the best air conditioner i've ever felt, plus it has "character."
