I've owned the car for three years, and put 33k on it. I've heard that fuel filters should be replaced every 60-75k miles. Seeing as how i don't know the specifics of the vehicle before i came into posession of it, would it be a good idea to change out the fuel filter? I've located it, found a guide online, and know i can get the part for $20. Is it something i should do? Will i see improved milage/preformance? Or should i follow the rule if it isn't broke don't fix it?

Fuel filters are important to the life of your fuel pump. If it has not been changed in the three years you have owned it, it would not hurt to change it. A clogged filter means the fuel pump has to work harder = shorter life.

..I change em once a year. A lot cheaper then dealing wit clogged FI nozzles. It's not that hard. Just keep a few rags handy and some hose clamps rather than the pinch clamps that come wit the filter. Not to be confused with the large particulate debri filter in the gas tank mounted fuel pump.

They're hard-lines that go to the filter..... the guide i read claims that fuel will come out(possibly 1/2 gal to 1/1 gal) Anyway to stop the bleed with hardlines other than to move very slowly and try and salvage the fuel for my lawnmower?

..get the shop manual. mine indicates the filter is mounted inside the frame rail forward of the fuel tank and has flex.rubber line with pinch clamps which I replaced wit hose clamps. I lost mabe 1/2 oz or less of fuel because with fuel injection the fuel line has high pressure when the pump is running and just residual pressure when the pump is off. All model vehicles are diffrent and I'm dealing with a 92 Dodge Dakota truck 5.2L FI. The shop manual is worth it's weight in gold.
