Wow, my 65 mustang doesn't have rust that bad 😕

Yes it does. It's a Ford 😕

My neighbor's 2000 Prelude has rust that bad as well...maybe it's also a Ford 😕

i think it's the last 5 years of production that went downhill - friend of mine had a tracer from early 90s without a bit of rust. Our own 2003 taurus lease was a total POS

All that means is that you take care of it MUCH better. My unlce had an old GM something for 20 years living in the snow because he took care of it very well. Blaming Ford for harsh weather conditions + improper care still make you a moron.....well at least about this. 😉 Sounds more like you have an agenda to me. I don't like GM junkmobiles but I don't blame things on GM that are not really their fault.

yah right. I was in Toronto last winter and witnessed all kinds of cars falling apart with rust. I saw this Toyota that had the bumper tied with long cords to keep it from falling off.
People as I've noticed bring out the beaters during the winter and nice cars during the summer over there.

My 92 Camry has one small spot of rust that could be covered with a dime. I've lived in Michigan just about my whole life and the car has spent it's whole time in the snow belt.

And you know EXACTLY how that car was maintained for 5 years? I doubt it.

For once, I'm not going to bash Ford because its uncalled for.

the rust started from inside the wheel well where the body panel was rolled in (in the edge). It's got nothign to do with maintenance or proper care. It's either crappy material or bad paintjob. Waxing the car won't help you stop rust...

Ok, so you live in the RUSTBELT and you don't understand that you are supposed to wash the underside of your vehicle off after driving in the salt/snow? Most people who care about their cars get extra undercoating in trouble areas like wheelwells if they are not going to take the time for proper maintenance. Hmmm....like I said earlier.

road salt causes body rust? 😕

I mean, my starter was permanently affixed to it's mounting bracket by a thick layer of crud thanks to roostertailing off the front wheel (yes, Chrysler, in their infinite wisdom, put the starter behind the wheel well) of snow, rain, salt, etc. but there's not a bit of rust ANYWHERE on the vehicle that's of any consequence. And it never gets washed. Except when it rains. The salt and road crud just cakes on and stays there until spring. My paint is still fine. My body isn't rusted. Only problem is that the starter had to be removed with a plasma torch.

Then again - this is 1989 over-engineering. I could drive over a landmine and it would still work (mostly) and you're looking at 21st century cost-engineering. This difference also accounts for why I was so effortlessly able to increase boost so damned high without blowing things up. In short, that car rusted because it's cheap new crap. My car doesn't because it's cheap old crap.
