What do you all think would be a fair price for a heavily-modded 2001 VW Jetta.

- Wolfsburg Edition
- 20,000 miles
- APR Stage III Turbo
- Limited-Slip Differential
- New (upgraded) clutch
- New (upgraded) brakes
- Caractere Body Kit
- 18" Brock B4 Wheels (I can't remember what they are wrapped in)

I'm sure I am forgetting other things, but these are the main mods. I have driven it, damn thing is FAST!!!

Sale price is 22k. Is that fair?

Here is a fairly close pic of it- Here. However, it is white. But I think that is the same body kit, and those are the same wheels.

Minendo- well I know that the engine was taken very good care of (it was my brother's car) other than of course the racing. But, I do know he only raced the car maybe 5-7 times after he got the new turbo. But he changed the oil with Redline every 3k.

If it's your very own brother then you should be getting a pretty good deal and a non trashed vehicle right?

(At least I hope your own brother would have your wellbeing in mind)

on VWvortex you see cars with more parts, more exterior stuff, in perfect condition going for 15k or so. Thing is they aren't 2-3 years old and you dont know how they drove em. If you trust that your bro didnt abuse the car and you have the cash, around 20 for that thing isn't too shabby.

Whats it run the 1/4 in? :)

Ack, I can't remember what the 1/4 is.....pretty damn fast. I think low 13s, or high 12s.

Sammyboy- I hear ya there. My brother doesn't want to sell his car, but he HAS to and I want to help him out. Problem is he won't sell it for less that 22k. He owes 17 and wants 5k in his pocket.

He babied it. I know he babied it, hell, he never drove it last winter. But I need a car that I can be a daily driver.

Good point...but regardless of that....just trying to get opinions on the price.

Because, it would definetly be an upgrade from my 1990 Jetta with 145k miles.

I was joking....BTW VW does not have such a good track record of late and a modded VW could become quite the money pit.

Point taken!! I'm doing more research on the Vortex! Thanks!

It also has an upgraded exhaust, as well as the Cold Air Intake that came with the APR Turbo kit.... plus an H&R cup kit.

Dude ive got an idea.

In approximately 13 hours I'm having my mechanic look over the 96 GTi vr6 I'm thinking about buying.

IF he gives me the green light I'll report right back here and give you the green light.

IF it has any major issues it's a sign and you have to tell your bro sorry :)

YAY FOR VEEDUBS!

The GTi has 134k on it :( Current (2nd) owner is a VW tech though and put lots of $$$ into it for current and preventative maintenance.

I'm PSYCHED! :)

Also, low 13's is damn respectable for a car like that, but high 12's is better :) and thats FAST, despite what these import tuner reading snot nosers think there aren't many "tough guys" on the road that'd be able to hang with you in that thing, and tastefully modded VW's are GORGEOUS! GORGEOUS!

Dude, i wanna find a sequoia green mk3 jetta so bad and swap the front fascias, JTi's are the hotness :) I aint complaining though, with the badgeless grill and euro lip my GTi is still a looker from the front :)

I have a question/comment. Do you have any idea how much power the engine makes with the new turbo? I only ask because in 2001 a stock Wolfsburg made 150hp compared with 180hp of today. You can buy a current Wolfsburg for most likely less than 22k. Granted, buying a new Wolfsburg wouldn't help your brother out, but it's just something to think about.

Hell yeah man. My buddy has an A3 JTi. It's SWEET!!! I can't remember what he ran when I was out at the track with him. When I see him tomorrow I will find out.

Definetly let me know what is up with the GTI!

Ack, I can't remember off the top of my head. But I think it was 300 to the crank.

Don't get it. Mods = Shorter life for the car... only get it if he is giving away all the stock parts as well!!!!!!! And get is checked by at least 2 independent, good mechanics. Don't go wrong dude!

Holy... Please tell me he did some mods besides just upgrading that turbo. Otherwise he's in the fast lane to blowing that engine to bits. I can't even imagine the lag in that thing either.

That's the thing. I can't remember what all the upgrades he did to it. But I do know those 1.8L engines are built extremely solid. And I know he dropped at least 15k in that thing, not including the labor costs.

The lag isn't that bad at all.

Oh, and regardless of a car, never, ever buy a used car from a relative or friend.

It is never sell to a friend or family :p

that is way to fricken much! and yes VWs are a bad car to buy used I used to work at a VW dealership and after the warranty expires (the short bumper to bumper part) the lil things start breaking to nickel and dime you to death!

For 22K you can get alot of car...

besides if you tried to trade that car in a month after you bought it for 22k you'd lose your shirt. Yes it is a trade but it is the Actual Cash Value of the vehical in which mods don't mean sh!t.

Exman- I would never trade it in. If I sold it I would sell it on the open market. What was your job at the VW dealership? I have a number of friends (including myself) who bought used VWs and have never had major problems with them. They are used, things do go wrong. Just like any car.

NADA pricing on the car (stock) is $17.5 retail. So I am basically paying 4500 for the upgrades.
