YACT: Factory Bose speakers with an aftermarket radio?

I have been reading about the Bose speakers, and it seems that they are 1 ohm instead of the standard 4 ohm speakers found in cars. My question is that with this low impedance, will the increased current draw kill my aftermarket head unit? Does anyone have any experience with this? They powered with a Bose amp from the factory, but I was planning on bypassing it.

You're going to have to pull it all out if you want an aftermarket headunit.

Well, there are ways to make it work. By feeding into the Bose amp with the aftermarket head unit, it will work, but it does not produce very nice sound quality. If you brother wants to do it for the cheapest possible, that is one way.

might as well replace the bose speakers, they aren't that great for car audio to begin with, from all the comments/reviews i've read from varirous makes who put them in, especially Audi owners.

you will have to replace every speaker, and run new wires to each.

That is going to cost a lot of money isn't it. I currently have the "9 speaker" Bose system right now. Any idea how much it will cost to exceed that sound quality?

$50-$80 per speaker for labor, and about $80-100 per pair for the speakers themselves.

It was done on my 1999 ML430. The installer somehow took the RCA out of my headunit and fed it into the harness which went into my amp. Needless to say, the sound quality was crap.

bose speakers are self amped and they run at 1ohms i believe.

why not just keep the bose system, they're pretty good for a stock system.

I dont understand why you get the bose package only to have it pulled out.

on some luxury cars, you cannot get navi w/o getting premium sound.

Well, my car died, and the one they had in stock that had the features that I wanted had the sound upgrade. They gave me a decent deal on it, so rather than wait for them to find a car and continue paying for a rental, I bought that one.

I dont know why you're upgrading the stock system ?
it aint like you're gonna be able to tell that much difference if you do decide to go high end.
Stock Bose system on automobiles are pretty damn good.
You might as well save the money and upgrade your home theater or something. But it's your money, so if you decide to pull the bose system, and put different speakers wouldn't you also need to rewire the whole vehicle ?Not to mention replace the headunit.

Oh, I have a really nice head unit that I took out of the broken car. It is an Eclipse AVN2454, which is touchscreen, has DVD nav, plays DVDs and MP3's. The factory unit is not touchscreen, and the user interface is crappy, so I wanted to put in my old unit.

Yea I know which unit you are talking about.
But removing the stock bose system might be more troublesome. But if you want to shell out the money, then more power to you.
What speakers are you going to be replacing it with ?

I have no clue. I was kind of hoping I could run the Bose speakers off it, and some people claim its possible, but it seems like people in this thread of doubtful of it. I do not see why I cannot technically get it to work, though I might kill the head unit with that kind of current draw.
