I have a question regarding the oil level. Today I checked the engine oil level and found out that it was slightly below the L level. I thought this probably meant that it was low for a while then. So, would it be already damge occured to my engine or it should be fine?

any possible symptoms such as engine noise or abnormal starting be observed if the engine had already been partially damged ?

Anyone has experience or know what the consequences be ?

Top it off IMMEDIATELY!

You should never let it get below the F mark, really. If you hear valve train noise due to low oil, you are damaging your engine.

You probably haven't damaged anything, at least not severely.. but I recommend an oil change. It's not good for the oil when you let it get that low.

Your oil also acts as a big liquid heat sink, in addition to lubrication. When your oil gets low, your engine and your oil run hotter, and that's not good.

Change your oil and check it more often.

was this before you had the car running for a while or after? if after you should be fine, if before, add some oil ASAP.....

check it tomorrow morning before you turn it on, and see what it's at, the stick only reads whats in the pan, and if it's right after you've turned it off after being on a while, the oil is all up inside your engine, not TOO accurate of a reading. My friend made that mistake, and thought he was OH NO LOW so he put like three more quarts in when in reality he was fine, that's overfilled and while it doesn't HURT your engine, it just makes the circulation go a bit slower, so less debris gets filtered out

To play safe and follow everyone's recommendation, I had already added a quart to it.

Thanks, Lithium. You are really helpful.

I think I should start checking it more frequently.

overfilling is bad... foams up the oil.... and can make it do a lot of damage... If it wasn't bad to over fill you wouldn't just put in 4 or 5 quarts... they'd say put it in till it overflows :p
