Don't forget to wipe the new oil filter seal with clean fresh oil before installing it

Side question: Why does a transmission fluid flush cost so much?

Repair shops have a lot of overhead.

Roger, one more question. Is it generally not worth it to get "Tune ups"? My car (89 Camry) just hit 160k miles. No real problems. Regular oil changes. Just got new tires. Thanks!

As a general rule, I follow the maintenance schedule called for by the auto makers, if it's a beater and you are not planning on putting another 100,000 miles on it, then let it go until it fails, then tune it up ;)

In a way you are right, but on the other hand when I read dumbest YACT quesiton yet, I thought it was going to be how do I change my oil. But dont listen to me, I dont change my own oil, I dont know how until I read this thread. BUT there are much more stupid questions that could have been asked.

I always put on a new drain plug crush gasket as well. Just a little extra insurance against leaks.

Oh, and I don't care for fram oil filters at all. I generally use filters made by Champion Labs, such as STP, Supertech, Bosch, or Mobil. Purolator and NAPA makes good filters too.
