YACT: Dropped something into my transmission...

I was changing my *transmission* oil and long story short, I dropped a little plastic cap the size of the front of a pencil into the manual transmission oil fill hole. Tried a lot of crap to get it out, but it was in too awkward a place to get a hold on it, and eventually it went in too far for me to be able to feel it.

So no way to get it out, I figured it's flimsy plastic and whatever's inside the transmission must be much stronger, so it probably can't cause any damage, and put the new oil in, drove for a while with no problems.

At this point, what would you personally do? Any way you think it can possibly be taken out? Or would you take apart the transmission or pay a mechanic to do it?

Drain the oil again and hope to god it come out with the oil.

Yeah, I was hoping that, but the opening at the drain hole is too small for it to have a very good chance of coming out of.

On my car the fill hole is also the hole where you test the oil level. Someone suggested that I overfill the transmission with oil while it's jacked up in front (the fill hole is towards the front) and then let it down, and jack it up in the rear so that the fluid flows back out of the fill hole, and takes the floating cap with it. I guess what I really need is a picture of the shape of the volume inside so see where it actually has a chance of coming out of.

Sigh..

wait, you were changing your engine oil and you dropped the part in your transmission fluid?

why did you have the cap off of your trans fill if you were only working with the engine?

He didn't say engine oil, he said oil, perhaps transmission fluid.

he was changing the transmission oil. those oil containers have these little plastic caps on them. i think that's what he somehow dropped in there.

Huh? Did I say engine oil somewhere? Sorry for non-clarity, but it has nothing to do with the engine, I stuck the front of the bottle into the hole with the cap on to see if it fits properly, and whether or not I would be able to squeeze it, because the hole is at a very very odd angle, and when I took the bottle back out, the cap was no longer on. Very stupid mistake.

he dropped the little cone shaped cap into the transmission.

but anyway, not a chance in hell your going to get it out without dropping the tranny and opening the case. the best you can do is ignore it and hope it gets chewed up, melts to something, or gets stuck somewhere un-important. if and when you lose a gear you'll at least know which synchro its stuck in.
