YACT: Does this sound like a scam to you?

I was at Costco the other day, and noticed a new sign in front of the door.... "We now have NITROGEN Tire Inflation! Better handling! Improves mileage! Longer tire life!"

Now, I'm not a tire expert, but to me this sounds like the biggest load of shiat I've ever heard. Air is 78% nitrogen. Do they really think getting rid of the 22% oxygen and other stuff is going to make a bit of difference? Is there really any scientific evidence that putting anything other than good old air in your tires is going to magically make your car handle better?

Airplane tires are filled with nitrogen.

Airplane tires are filled with nitrogen.

But I thought that was to reduce fires?

Well then if you fill your tires at costco, you won't have to worry about them bursting in flames while you drive.

nitrogen is better for the tires.
less air pressure variations, and tires don't lose pressure as fast as they would with air.
many big rig trucks have nitrogen filled tires.
nitrogen is a nearly inert gas so the tire won't deteriotate from the inside, also the fill is mositure free.

these are all things i have read about using nitrogen in tires. google shows similar results.nitrogen tire advantages
