YACT: DIY Windshield Repair Kits

Hey guys,

I was driving home from college yesterday when a big rock slammed into my windshield. It took a small chunk out of the windshield and left a few faint spider cracks. The damage is probably the size of a nickel, maybe a quarter.

I want to patch up the damage as best I can, so I went looking online. Taking my car to a professional window repair place will cost ~$50 or so, but purchasing a DIY kit like this would only be ~$10. I would (obviously) like to spend the least amount of money on this.

Anyone have any experience with these types of kits before?

I have had good luck with the permatex brand at auto zone. Works well on chips and bullseye type of glass damage. They don't work too well on cracks longer than 1/2" or more.

Don't buy the one at wal-mart with the bullentin board push pin in the kit. That kit sucks and I couldn't get it to work.
