YACT: Dilemna moving a car

I'm not sure how to find a good company for this. I'm buying my father's car but I have to find a way to ship it up here. It's coming from Texas to the Wash. DC area. I thought of driving it myself but I just don't have the time.
Anyone have any experience with any companies that transport cars? Any recommendations? Anything I should look for when I'm looking for a company? Questions I should ask? etc.

thanks in advance!

EDIT: forgot to mention, it's a grand marquis

EDIT2: Well my dad dropped the car off at the Mesquite location on May 21st. It's estimated delivery date was June 8. I checked the online tracking page and it says its still in Mesquite! I called on Saturday and she told me that she'd have someone call me back on Monday to let me know what's going on. Nothing on Monday. Everytime I try to call now, I'm put on hold for over 30 minutes. And they charged my credit card the same day my dad dropped off the car.

Any ideas on how to proceed?

Make the time and drive it unless it is worth $800-$1000 to have it transported. DAS auto shippers

I just delivered a car to Lincoln, Nebraska this weekend. Nice little run (16 hours). Not too long and drove through an awsome storms. Some lightening strikes about 700 yards from the interstate!!

hire somebody to drive it for you.

i drove a woman's car from Tallahassee FL to Seattle , she graduated from FSU and was going to WSU for grad school.

she posted a notice on a board for people looking for rides and i called her. she paid for the gas and i took the time to drive the car. i needed a ride , so it worked out for both of us.

DAS Houston to Minneapolis= $845 for a Ford Explorer.

I'd love to drive it but it's just not possible right now for me. It's a 20-25 hour drive at least and I just don't have a weekend free for that in the next month (which is when I need the car by)

Thanks for all the other suggestions though! 🙂

DAS quoted me a price of $500 to ship it. Will I need to purchase their insurance if the car is already covered under a full coverage policy?

Call your insurance company and ask. You may be able to get a specific rider to cover this situation.

Driveaway services are like the guy who posted above. You get your car on a board, and when someone needs to get to the place you need your car shipped to, they sign up and drive your car there. There are some allowances for mileage for side trips. If you offer cash for gas as an incentive, you'll get a driver sooner. Also it helps if your car is not a POS. No one wants to drive a Geo across the country.
