YACT: Did i kill my throwout bearing?

wow, didnt know there was a seperate forum for cars now.
My story!
Well i believe i need a new clutch =[. Lately whenever i push in the clutch i would get this freaky AIR sound. Well, today i guess i killed it because i downshifted into 1st while rolling so i could hear the nice exhaust pop and roar and i felt the clutch padel get real stiff and notchy. So, i pulled over and smoke started coming out from where the tranny is.

Here how it sounds :/ The loud screeching noise comes when i press in the clutch padel. Just took the sound clip about 10 minutes ago.

Yup, sounds like new-clutch time.

Get a new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. Remember to get the flywheel turned before putting everything together.

It's possible that only the throwout bearing is truly *shot*, but depending on the mode of failure and how much you've been driving it since, it might have screwed up the splines on the pressure plate...and since the biggest headache with clutch jobs is labor, not parts, it's worth it to just replace everything now. How many miles on this clutch? Did the throwout bearing get changed last time the clutch was changed?

BTW, what's that impact wrench sound when you start it?

I think your talking about me moving the shifter around in Nuetral. (aftermarket short throw shifter. ALot louder than stock when moved around most of time because its spring loaded)

thanks for your thoughts 😀

Yea my T.Bearing went out in my saab. When it was opened the clutch had plenty of life. In fact it had over 100k on the cluth but the bearing failed. i think mostly becuse the car sat for a yeasr or so after the engine locked up.

Did your car make a similar noise when the bearing went?

thanks

I have an '03 Cobra with the T56, not sure if yours is similar but on mine the throwout bearing retainer sleeve is a common problem. I replaced mine with stainless steel after market ones and no more squealing and premature wear. For me the squeal was only when letting off the clutch, and it was louder with the window down (ie: definitely outside the car and not the pedal hinge joint)

No speakers at work but mine would make noise but only when I pushed in the clutch. When off no noise but even the slighest touch would get the whirl sound. it got so bad i could not even shift. I had to speed match it to get it to where it was torn down. I know i ate some metal off my gears when ti went out trying to shift.
