One of my projects to make my vehicle fleet what I consider the ideal, dashboard mounted cameras are neccessary. Not talking ghetto cameras like the cops use - I'm talking DV camera. Panasonic PV-DV53, for example. Compact, cheap ($400 'retail' - $200 or less from photo supply catalogs). Wire the power into the car's 12v, capture to the Carputer's harddrive. But - how the hell do you put a camera on your dashboard without screaming 'STEAL ME!!!!!'
And how do you keep it from melting when you park in the sun?
As for the reasons for this camera - it makes you the ultimate witness to accidents. ATOT can actually get the pics that they crave. And when you need a camera, all you need to do is go out to the car, pop it off the dash, unplug the data and power cables, and run with it.
Edit: Camera specs
It's tiny - maybe I could stealth it? But what the heck kind of electronics do you usually sit on your dash?
